Codexis, a biotechnology company based in Redwood City, CA, is looking to hire a Senior Manager, Logistics and Inventory Management.
Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging its proprietary CodeEvolver® technology platform to discover, develop and enhance novel, high-performance enzymes and other classes of proteins. About the Opportunity:
The Senior Manager, Logistics and Inventory Management is accountable for warehouse operations, order fulfillment, end-to-end transportation and inventory management.
The position plays a critical role in supporting research, development and commercial supply chains to ensure timely, complaint, and cost-effective movement, storage, and availability of materials, while maintaining strict adherence to quality and regulatory requirements.
The Senior Manager, Logistics and Inventory Management reports to the Vice President of Supply Chain, within the Tech Ops organization, and is based in Redwood City, California.

In this role you will be responsible for:
- End-to-End Materials Management – Implement measures, including FIFO adherence, material variances, cycle time optimization, scrap/obsolescence management, cycle/physical counting, and audits to ensure inventory accuracy and to mitigate stockouts or overstocking
- Continuous Improvement – Develop tools to track inventory, storage capacity, and provide data-driven insights to support decision-making, mitigate risk, and optimize material-related processes
- Analytics & Reporting – Analyze material usage trends, identify opportunities for process improvements, and implement lean practices to optimize material handling, storage, and distribution.
- KPIs – Develop, monitor, and report key performance indicators to measure and drive reliability and efficiency
- Transportation Management – Lead qualification, relationship management, and business performance reviews for transportation service providers to ensure performance meets expectations and is delivered within budget
- Establish planned and predictable transportation processes. Operate with a sense of urgency to address issues that arise (missing paperwork, late deliveries, quality concerns, poor communication, etc.), with a corrective action plan to mitigate issue recurrence
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or related life sciences field
- 10+ years of experience in material management, inventory control, or transportation management roles in biotechnology or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle) and advanced planning tools
- Ability to be onsite, in Redwood City, CA
Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:
- 3+ years of experience managing a team
- Experience implementing 5S, lean manufacturing or 6-Sigma principles
- Proficient in warehouse fundamentals including design considerations, environmental monitoring, material segregation, space planning, temperature mapping, risk management
- Strong understanding of documentation and import-export requirements for domestic and international shipments
- Experience handling and managing hazardous materials and ensuring compliance with GMP, ISO9001 and OSHA standards
- Proficient in ERP & WMS software systems and tools to track inventory, generate reports, and provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and optimize material-related processes
- Experience in ramping low volume operations to high rate
- Demonstrated adaptability and resilience in changing business environments
- Forklift certification
- APICS certification
