Job Description

About the Role

As the Line 2 Compliance lead for our Operations (incl. BOQ’s collections and customer assistance teams), Technology, and Group functions (incl. Finance, People, Group Risk) divisions, you will provide specialist compliance and conduct risk advice and insights, independent review, and constructive challenge across key business activities, initiatives, issues and incidents.

This includes supporting business and Line 1 Risk teams to ensure regulatory obligations are appropriately understood, assessed and managed, including those under the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, National Credit Code, and the Banking Code of Practice.

Working closely with business leaders, Line 1 Risk and Line 2 peers, you will play a key role in supporting compliant business outcomes and ensuring BOQ’s compliance risk management framework remains embedded, effective, and aligned to regulatory expectations.

You will review and analyse risk events, compliance cases, customer remediation activity, obligation mapping, complaints, breach data and emerging issues to identify key themes, trends and areas of conduct and compliance risk focus for the divisions.

While this role provides insights from reported breaches, it is not responsible for breach determination or breach reporting.

Reporting to the Head of Compliance Advisory you will also provide Line 2 SME input and challenge on the impact of regulatory change for the divisions, supporting the business to accurately interpret, map and embed obligations into processes and controls.

Through clear and insightful reporting, you will escalate material or emerging compliance and conduct risk matters to senior stakeholders and governance forums, including Divisional Risk Committees.

This role also contributes to the ongoing uplift of BOQ’s compliance risk management framework, policies and processes, helping to ensure consistent standards are embedded across the organisation.

You will build trusted stakeholder relationships and operate as a pragmatic advisor, balancing effective risk management with commercial outcomes. In addition, you will lead, coach and develop direct reports, fostering an engaged and high-performing team aligned to BOQ values, while promoting a strong compliance and conduct risk culture through training, awareness and day-to-day engagement.

About You

You are an experienced compliance or risk professional with a strong background in banking or financial services and at least 10 years’ experience in Line 1 Risk or Line 2 Compliance roles. You bring extensive knowledge of financial services regulation, including National Credit Code obligations relevant to collections and hardship activities, along with a deep understanding of risk, control and obligation management frameworks. Comfortable navigating complex regulatory and change environments, you can independently drive compliance initiatives and influence positive customer and business outcomes while balancing commercial realities and regulatory expectations.

You are a highly credible and pragmatic advisor who builds trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation, from frontline teams to senior executives and governance forums.

With strong stakeholder engagement, problem-solving and time management skills, you are able to analyse complex issues, apply sound judgement and communicate risk matters clearly and confidently to a range of audiences.

Experience with GRC platforms is essential, as will your commitment to fostering a strong risk culture and your alignment with BOQ Group’s values of putting customers and communities at the centre of everything you do.
