In this role, you'll:
Be part of Transport for NSW's Legal & Governance branch, (which reports to the Transport Secretary), working collaboratively across the organisation, partnering to provide critical legal advice and support for sensitive and complex legal matters to support the operations of Transport for NSW and other agencies in the transport portfolio.
This Senior Manager position is an integral part of the specialist Projects, Development and Planning team within Transport for NSW's Legal & Governance branch and primarily has responsibility for supporting the NSW Future Fleet Program (Rail),a multidecade initiative to replace aging suburban passenger trains, starting with the Tangara fleet by the early 2030s, followed by the Millennium, Oscar, and Waratah fleets through the 2040s and 2050s. The program aims to manufacture approximately 1,500 new train cars with a 50% local content target, revitalising domestic rail manufacturing and creating skilled jobs and apprenticeships.
Reporting to the Director, Legal, you’ll support other front-end construction and major projects across all Transport modes and forge working relationships with key internal clients and leads, oversees, and provides expert, clear, comprehensive legal services.
Taking a leading role in project teams, you’ll identify legal risks, providing solution-oriented legal advice and drafting and contributes as a senior team member to coordinate and influence outcomes. You will have capability to conduct matters, including supervising more junior lawyers, and be given a high degree of autonomy to do so.
This contract position for up to 24 months is governed by our hybrid working model, which forms part of the organisation’s Flexible Working Arrangements and associated procedures. This includes a combination of required onsite attendance at our Elizabeth Street office in Sydney CBD and approved remote working.

About you
You are a Construction or Infrastructure Projects Lawyer with front-end experience and a minimum of 5-7 years post admission experience.
You’ll have advanced written and verbal communication skills and are able to convey technical legal concepts clearly and succinctly.
You will have knowledge and experience in drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of construction and infrastructure related contracts, including construct only, design and construct, managing contractor, consultancy appointments and associated documents and agreements.
You will be able to communicate and influence effectively and inspire confidence in internal colleagues (including at a very senior level) as they grapple with high profile and often challenging issues.
You will hold tertiary qualifications in law and hold a practising certificate in NSW and model the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct
Experience working within the government sector is not essential.
