In this role, you'll:

You will be working as part of the Planning and Environment team sitting within Property, Planning and Environment, within the Legal and Governance branch in our Secretary’s Division.



This role will see you manage a diverse range of planning and environment matters, including to work as part of a legal team to assist in the provision of legal support on relevant areas of law to support the business and operations of Transport for NSW, TAM, Sydney Trains and NSW Trains You will also be managing the end-to-end progress of all planning and environmental law matters.



Reporting to the Director Legal, Property, Planning & Environment, you will be a Senior Manager in the team providing solutions focussed independent advice to support the achievement of organisational outcomes, minimise legal risk and deliver on our commitment to our customers, the people of NSW.



This permanent opportunity is hybrid-friendly, meaning you can mix in-person days at your team’s home base location of Elizabeth Street, Sydney with remote days.

About you

You are a seasoned lawyer who holds a practising certificate in NSW. You will have a minimum of 8 years post qualifications experience, in environment and planning law, compulsory acquisition of land, dealing with contaminated land and native title including in relation to the following legislation: Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Roads Act 1993, Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, Native Title Act 1993, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991, and Heritage Act 1977.



You are an experienced planning & environment lawyer with advanced written and verbal communication skills, able to convey legal concepts clearly and succinctly.



You will have experience handling complex matters with multiple stakeholders.



You will be an experienced drafter, negotiator and communicator working closely with clients to drive practical and commercially focussed outcomes.



You are a resourceful person with a proactive working style, who is able to work autonomously and as part of a team. You will have a passion for environment and planning law and enjoy working on a diverse range of matters.

You will also enjoy working and collaborating as part of a hardworking and friendly team, including mentoring and developing junior lawyers of the team.



This role will primarily have you managing matters in the Land and Environment Court and NSW Supreme Court in accordance with the NSW Model Litigant Policy.
