We are seeking a highly strategic and influential leader to join the Water for the Environment Branch as Senior Manager Knowledge This is a unique opportunity to lead the development of environmental water knowledge and drive evidence-informed decision-making that delivers real outcomes for rivers, wetlands, and communities across NSW.

About the role

As Senior Manager Knowledge, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop and apply environmental water knowledge that informs planning, policy, and on-ground delivery. You will play a key leadership role in shaping program priorities, influencing reform, and ensuring integration of scientific and cultural knowledge into decision-making.

You will work across government, with stakeholders and partners, to ensure environmental water management is coordinated, strategic, and delivers measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing team delivering technical and strategic environmental water knowledge
• Align knowledge, monitoring, evaluation and delivery functions to drive evidence-based planning and outcomes
• Shape long-term program priorities by analysing emerging risks, opportunities and policy contexts
• Drive development of strategies across program, departmental and multi-agency contexts
• Influence state and inter-jurisdictional environmental water policy, including Murray–Darling Basin priorities
• Build strong partnerships with government, industry, community and Aboriginal stakeholders
• Embed scientific and cultural knowledge into planning, reporting and continuous improvement
• Strengthen governance and frameworks to support transparent, future-focused decision-making

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

• be accountable for managing team operations and planning to deliver agreed work program outcomes
• operate with a high level of autonomy, setting work priorities, allocating tasks, and making decisions within delegated authority
• take full responsibility for the quality, accuracy and integrity of advice provided
• make decisions in line with Government sector values, strategic priorities, legislative frameworks, and agency policies and procedures
• escalate matters to the Director where there is potential risk to the Department or where higher-level approval is required

Key knowledge and experience

• Experience working with multiple stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate strategic planning, technical knowledge and delivery design.
• Knowledge of the operational and strategic requirements for the successful delivery of environmental water planning programs in the context of current policy and legislative frameworks.
• Experience translating and supporting the implementation of strategic plans and policy to implementation of environmental water program delivery.

Essential requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as environmental science, ecology, natural resource management, environmental engineering and/or equivalent experience.
