The Senior Manager: Litigation and Employee Relations (ER) will be accountable to achieve amongst others the following key objectives:
- Provide leadership, assistance. and direction in all employee relations and litigious matters MTN Group is involved in and for the implementation of its strategy.
- Provide legal opinions, legal advisory and support to the Group on employee relations matters and litigation matters, including the provision of guidance and professional advice as may be instructed from time to time.
- Manage internal and external employee relations matters and commercial litigation matters against MTN through the business line Management;
- Lead negotiation meetings with internal and external stakeholders;
- Provide legal support to the commercial legal teams in operating units;
- Provide guidance in respect of compliance with applicable legislation and general jurisprudence;
- Facilitate dispute resolution and settlement processes;
- Advise management and stakeholders on new legislation and the impact thereof on the business.
- Engage and consult with Management, Counsel, attorneys, relevant stakeholders and witnesses where required.
- Co-ordinate and supervise external briefs and pending litigation matters.
- Research of legal developments and amendments to applicable laws and regulations;
- Provide training to personnel across the MTN Group on employment and litigation policies and guidelines and managing litigation and disputes and associated risks;
- Provide inputs to the associated documentation, including review of and drafting of disciplinary process documents, contracts of employment, policies, letters of demand and replies, pleadings, settlement agreements, submissions for reviews, appeals etc;

Key Deliverables
- Provide guidance in employee relations and litigious matters MTN Group is involved in and for the implementation of its strategy.
- Draft, negotiate and formalise legal aspects of commercial arrangements concluded by the MTN Group in implementing its strategy relating to employment law and litigation services.
- Provide support, guidance and advice to MTN Operating Companies, where requested or required, regarding employment law and litigation matters and all related transactions, risks and other similar matters.
- Provide support on various legal aspects of the MTN Group’s litigation activities.

Role Dependencies
- Active support from the GM’s Litigation and Employment Law
- Deep understanding of the MTN business strategy
- Understanding of the OpCo, business and Regulatory context
- Timely decision making and reporting
- Deep understanding of employment law and litigation Rules and principles
- Alignment of OpCo and Group strategy employee relations and litigation deliverables.

Education:
- Minimum 4-year Academic Degree with Honours (LLB or equivalent preferred)
- Admission as an attorney or Advocate of the High Court
- Experience in dealing with employment and litigation matters for a multinational
- MBA / Masters (advantageous)
- Fluent in English

Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years post admission legal experience at a reputable law firm (local or International).
- Considerable exposure in General Litigation and Employee Relations Management of highly complex transactions (locally and/or internationally)
- Multi-jurisdictional transactions (advantageous)
- Ability to operate a legal portfolio independently
- Work across diverse cultures and geographies
