Job Description

Role Purpose:

Reporting to the Director of Engineer of the Central Support Desk Director (CSD), your role will be pivotal in delivering engineering design reviews for New, Conversion and Existing Hotel projects across the EMEAA region.

Key Accountabilities:

The key purpose of this role is to support, through the Director of Engineering CSD, our regional & business unit field engineers with stage design reviews that will enable them focus on the front-end delivery of efficient and effective services to our Growth, Opening and Operating Partners and the Investors in our brands.

As a member of the HLG CSD, you will be called on to deliver stage review and reporting on design & solutions for New Build, Conversion, Rebranding, Change of Ownership and Relicensing projects. In delivering your support, you will be providing assurance that our Hotels are and can remain compliant to our Brand, Engineering & Brand Safety Standards,

In your role, you will be expected to apply and grow your knowledge / understanding of current and new technical solutions & technology that are geared towards improved operational effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability and apply these through the design review and feedback, you deliver. You will be expected to support this through

  • Design Stage Review - you will be allocated projects and expected to carry out assessments of consultant design at concept, preliminary and full design stages. The assessment must provide a detailed report on the compliance / none compliance in reflection of the BSR/PIP, the applicable of Brand Standards and the appropriate selection of design solutions, as set out within the IHG Technical Handbook (THB).
  • Tender stage Review – you will be required to complete review, assessment and reporting of the post tender documents / reports from the project consultant team and review and any post tender submittals provided by the supplier / contract teams approached, you are expected to issue a compliance / none-compliance report.
  • Implementation stage review – You will be part of the team that reviews and comments on consultants’ designs. This will cover the appropriateness of scope, budget and operational fit. Throughout this stage our field-based engineers will make site visits and provide you with reports and feedback, which you will be expected to review and comment on, identifying potential areas of project risk or none compliance.
  • Opening & Post Opening review – You will have provided guidance on IHG’s commissioning, test & inspection certification requirements and are expected to review as built / as installed plans and operations instructions provided. In your review you are expected to comment on compliance to previous review and advice delivered through the build journey and package this together for delivery to our NHOP team member who will formally open the property. You may be called upon to also provide information from the data base for a post opening review.

Critical Expertise, Experience and Educational Attainment Required:

Educational Attainment:

  • University or collage degree in engineering design and application (or international equivalent) with emphasis Building / Marine services, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing / Fire & Life Safety & Environmental engineering design
  • Certified in Fire Safety Engineering or Risk Management Assessor is an added advantage.
  • Project Management Certification is an added advantage
  • Professional Engineer (PE) qualifications in design and commissioning are preferred.

Critical Expertise & Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years related experience to include at least 5 years in a related building services role for hotels or high-end commercial complexes.
  • Well versed in Fire life safety equipment and Key Engineering Equipment (Electrical Switchboard distribution, elevators, plumbing and sanitary, ventilation, heating, air-conditioning, etc) testing and commissioning procedures, preferably with hands-on understanding
  • Hotel operations/working experience within a multi-national corporate environment is considered an added advantage.
