Employment Type: Full Time

Location: New York City, New York

Reporting To: SVP Marketing & Communications

Compensation: $80,000 - $115,000 / year

The Jed Foundation (JED) is a nonprofit organization that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. JED is seeking a highly organized, analytical, and creative Email Marketing Manager to own our email program end-to-end. This role will focus on growing, engaging, and retaining our email audience to drive measurable increases in direct response performance, fundraising revenue, and donor lifetime value. You will manage all email campaigns, automated journeys, and triggered flows, from planning and segmentation to creative briefing, QA, delivery, and performance optimization. All while ensuring that our communications reflect JED’s brand, voice, and mission.

Key Responsibilities

Campaign Strategy & Execution

  • Plan, build, and deploy all outbound fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship emails. Including newsletters, appeals, match campaigns, Giving Tuesday, and year-end drives.
  • Manage automated journeys and triggered flows (e.g., welcome series, new donor onboarding, monthly donor onboarding, lapsed donor reactivation).
  • Maintain a master content and deployment calendar to coordinate cross-functional needs (development, programs, advocacy, events).
  • Ensure consistent voice, tone, and messaging aligned with JED’s mission.

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow JED’s email list through website opt-ins, lead generation campaigns, partnerships, and events.
  • Manage audience segmentation and personalization strategies to deliver relevant, timely messages.
  • Monitor and improve list hygiene, deliverability, and compliance with CAN-SPAM, CCPA, and other regulations.

  • Develop clear and concise creative briefs for designers, writers, and external partners to ensure alignment on goals, messaging, and desired outcomes.
  • Translate campaign objectives and fundraising strategies into compelling email concepts, ensuring copy and design reflect JED’s brand voice and emotional resonance.
  • Review creative assets with an eye for conversion optimization, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Maintain a library of high-performing creative elements and share insights across the team to inform broader fundraising and engagement efforts.

  • Use A/B and multivariate testing for subject lines, content, calls-to-action, send times, and segmentation to maximize engagement and conversions.
  • Continuously analyze KPIs (open rates, CTR, conversion rates, revenue per send, unsubscribe rates) and apply insights to future sends.
  • Collaborate with digital ads and web teams to align messaging and improve donor journeys across channels.
  • Present performance insights and optimization recommendations to Marketing and Development leadership on a regular basis.
  • Work closely with creative, fundraising, and program teams to translate campaign concepts into high-impact email content.
  • Brief and coordinate with designers, copywriters, and external partners as needed.
  • Serve as the internal subject-matter expert for email marketing best practices.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on email marketing experience; e-commerce or direct-to-consumer marketing experience a plus.
  • Expertise in direct response marketing and digital fundraising is essential, with a proven ability to craft compelling asks that drive immediate action and donor conversion.
  • Proven track record of managing complex email calendars and automated flows that drive measurable revenue growth.
  • Strong grasp of segmentation, personalization, deliverability, and list hygiene.
  • Must be data-driven and highly analytical, with demonstrated ability to translate performance data into actionable insights.
  • Experience with Campaign Monitor required; familiarity with FundraiseUp and Salesforce preferred.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
  • Passion for youth mental health, suicide prevention, and JED’s mission.

  • Sustained growth in active, engaged email subscribers.
  • Improved conversion rates and revenue from both campaigns and automated flows.
  • On-brand communications that integrate with paid media, social, and web content.

  • A disciplined test-and-learn approach that consistently delivers better results.
