Department Summary:

The Electric Risk & Compliance organization provides governance, oversight, and strategic direction on risk and compliance matters across Electric Operations, ensuring alignment with enterprise policies and external/internal regulatory requirements. It partners cross-functionally to manage compliance requirements, strengthen controls, and enable risk-based oversight through effective monitoring, data, and reporting. The Compliance Insights team provides strategic, comprehensive data analysis, reporting, and data-driven insights that support Electric compliance, investigations, and risk management.

As the Sr. Manager, Electric Compliance Controls on the Compliance and Risk Insights team, you will help identifying and implementing Electric’s compliance controls in accordance with the electric compliance requirements and processes. The role focuses on Compliance Controls, addresses the control inventory and design evaluation needed to manage risk applies compliance, risk, and quality expertise to against PG&E’s Compliance Maturity Model and align program design with recognized standards for effective compliance and ethics programs, including the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Sentencing Guidelines. You will stand-up a multi-year strategy for compliance controls and reporting improvement and lead development of a robust controls program within the Electric organization. You will partner with process owners and leadership to identify risks, document control activities, and support testing and remediation activities across key business processes.

This role leads with vision, translating complex requirements into clear, actionable frameworks that strengthen performance and accountability. You drive strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects that advance the compliance organization’s goals and enhance enterprise coordination, fostering a culture of proactive risk management and continuous improvement. You ensure compliance isn't just followed but is embedded in how PG&E operates in an evolving energy landscape.

The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory, and will be required to work 2-3 days in the office per week.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $159,000.00

Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $215,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $271,000.00

Minimum Base Salary (California) $151,000.00

Mid Base Salary (California) $204,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (California) $257,000.00

Responsibilities

Program & Initiative Alignment

  • Set Compliance Strategy and Drive Implementation: Define and lead the strategic direction for the Electric Compliance organization, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals.
  • Lead the alignment and integration of initiatives across Electric Risk, Compliance, and related operational functions to ensure cohesive strategy execution.
  • Develop and maintain roadmaps, interdependency maps, and initiative dashboards to provide visibility into progress, risks, and resourcing needs.
  • Accelerate Compliance Adoption: Champion adoption of strategic compliance initiatives across lines of business through thoughtful change leadership and stakeholder engagement.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Execution:
    • Lead enterprise-wide initiatives that advance compliance program maturity, reduce risk exposure, and embed compliance into operational routines.
    • Identify and analyze emerging challenges and opportunities, assessing business impact and offering solutions.
    • Develop recommendations on how PG&E can position itself to take advantage of opportunities and proactively adjust and prepare for challenges, mitigating risks.

Risk & Compliance Performance Management

  • Establish, monitor, and report on KPIs, performance metrics, and leading indicators that measure operational risk posture and compliance effectiveness.
  • Partner with data, analytics, and operational teams to maintain high-quality, trusted data sources supporting risk and compliance performance monitoring.
  • Identify gaps, trends, and emerging risks using KPI insights; escalate issues and collaborate with owners to drive corrective action plans.

Strategic Program Management

  • Manage complex, multi-year strategic efforts that advance electric risk mitigation, regulatory readiness, and compliance maturity.
  • Utilize structured program management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Agile, Lean) to ensure timely, high-quality execution.
  • Track and mitigate program risks and dependencies, ensuring issues are proactively addressed.

Governance & Process Excellence

  • Develop consistent governance frameworks, templates, and processes for initiative planning, reporting, and strategic alignment.
  • Standardize operational rhythms, including monthly performance reviews, risk reporting routines, and compliance dashboards.
  • Ensure documentation, records, and audit trails support regulatory requirements and external/internal audits.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to senior leaders, providing insight, analysis, and recommendations based on program and KPI performance.
  • Prepare high-quality executive presentations, board materials, and regulatory communications.
  • Foster a collaborative environment by building strong relationships across engineering, field operations, risk, legal, compliance, and executive teams.
  • Shape Executive Communications: Develop and deliver impactful compliance communications for executive forums, translating complexity into clarity for senior leaders.
  • Align Regulatory Partners: Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Engineering, Asset Strategy, and Operations to ensure cohesive interpretation and application of regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate with Clarity & Authority: Engage confidently with senior leaders and stakeholders, translating complex reporting requirements into clear and digestible actions and communications.
  • Grow and Empower Teams: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing compliance team responsible for executing compliance strategies, communications, and enterprise alignment. Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration or job-related field or equivalent related work experience.
  • Ten years of relevant work experience with steady progression of responsibilities
  • Two years of leadership experience

Desired:

  • Five or more years in a leadership role leading cross-functional teams
  • Master’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration or job-related field
  • Electrical engineer with experience in the utility industry to support technical interpretations and implementation of new compliance requirements.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Direct experience in utility compliance, operations or related programs
  • Prior involvement with regulatory audits, inspections, or filings
  • Advanced knowledge of California and federal regulatory requirements and electric utility compliance practices
  • Deep knowledge of utility regulatory frameworks (e.g., CPUC, FERC, NERC, WECC) and how they inform enterprise compliance strategy
  • Proven ability to design and lead implementation of compliance governance models that drive operational alignment and accountability
  • Strong understanding of utility operations and asset management, with the ability to translate regulatory expectations into field-executable strategy
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional, high-impact initiatives through risk-based planning, change leadership, and strategic execution
  • Executive communication skills and presence, with experience delivering high-impact presentations and updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Ability to align compliance strategy with enterprise goals, influencing direction across functions through collaboration, insight, and strategic clarity
  • Proficiency in compliance systems, reporting tools, and analytics platforms (e.g., GRC, SAP, Power BI) to support insight-driven decision-making
