Job Description

Step into a career with ASM, where cutting edge technology meets collaborative culture.

For over 55 years ASM has been ahead of what’s next, at the forefront of innovation and what’s technologically possible. With more than 4,500 ASMers representing 70 nationalities, our people and our advanced semiconductor devices are playing a crucial role in trends such as 5G, cloud computing, AI, and autonomous driving.  But we’re more than just a tech company. We value diversity, inclusion and sustainability as we strive to make a positive impact on the world. Our development programs help support your growth, shaping your future and pushing the boundaries of innovation to unleash potential.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Configuration Engineering to lead configuration strategy and execution for our Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) product portfolio. This is a people manager role responsible for defining scalable product structures, driving configuration governance, and leading a team that ensures seamless translation of engineering designs into manufacturable, orderable systems.

This role serves as a critical interface between Engineering, Order Fulfillment, Manufacturing, and Sales Operations, enabling high-quality, on-time delivery of complex semiconductor equipment. The ideal candidate brings deep semiconductor industry experience, global operation skills, and proven people leadership in a highly matrixed environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Configuration Engineers - fostering accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear priorities, performance expectations, and development plans aligned to business objectives.
  • Build scalable configuration processes and organizational capabilities to support product and volume growth.

Configuration Strategy & Product Structure

  • Own and govern the product configuration architecture for ALD products, ensuring robust, scalable, and error-free product structures.
  • Define and maintain system-level configuration rules, variants, and options with a focus on standardization and commonality.
  • Drive improvements to product offering simplification, reducing complexity and optimizing BOM structures across platforms.

Cross-Functional Execution

  • Serve as the primary configuration liaison between Engineering, Order Fulfillment, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
  • Ensure engineering changes are correctly translated into orderable configurations and executable BOMs.
  • Partner with Sales Operations to ensure configurability supports commercial flexibility while protecting manufacturability and margins.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline
  • 8–10+ years of experience in configuration management, product line engineering, or systems engineering within the semiconductor equipment industry.
  • Proven people management experience, including team leadership, performance management, and talent development.
  • Deep understanding of BOM structures, configuration management, and product lifecycle management in the semiconductor industry.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration and BOM automation tools on common business enterprise platforms.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to influence engineering, operations, and commercial teams.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting ALD, CVD, or related process equipment platforms.
  • Product management experience

Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with strong execution discipline
  • Credible technical leader with a systems-level mindset
  • Excellent communicator across engineering, operations, and commercial stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented while maintaining focus on speed, scalability, and business impact
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly matrixed semiconductor environment

About ASM

At ASM, we’re shaping the future at the atomic level. We enable the next generation of microchips by empowering leading semiconductor manufacturers with advanced wafer processing equipment.

Through our mastery of thin-film deposition, we create the innovative tools and solutions that shape the materials at the heart of tomorrow’s technology – powering everything from AI and next-generation healthcare to cloud computing and smarter, more energy-efficient devices.

With over 4,600 people representing more than 60 nationalities across 15 locations worldwide, we’re united by one ambition: to stay ahead of what’s next. And with research centers in seven countries and nearly a quarter of our people and profits devoted to research and development, excellence is our baseline, not our finish line.

Our pioneering thin-film deposition technologies – like atomic layer deposition, epitaxy, silicon carbide, chemical vapor deposition and vertical furnaces – help our customers push the limits of performance, speed, and efficiency. Our strong patent portfolio, flat organization, and agile way of working enable fast collaboration, global mobility, and a competitive edge far beyond our scale.

Every day, we work to make integrated circuits smaller, faster, more energy-efficient, and more powerful. Together, we’re advancing technologies that unlock new potential and improve lives.
