The Team

The Child Safety and Wellbeing Service within the Department of Health Tasmania is dedicated to promoting and maintaining safe, supportive, and inclusive environments for children and young people across health services. Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals, leaders, and external stakeholders, the team provides expert guidance, policy oversight, education, and support to strengthen child safeguarding practices and ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements. Committed to a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement, the team plays a critical role in protecting the rights, wellbeing, and best interests of children and young people.

The Role

Provide leadership and direction across the Department to create a child-safe and trauma-informed culture, and to develop, implement and drive statewide strategies and actions to promote child safety and wellbeing. This includes ensuring that the Department is child-centred, engages with children and young people, and develops and embeds systems to ensure children are safe and supported.

Reporting to the Director of Child Safeguarding, you will manage the human, financial and physical operations of the Service, support child safety and wellbeing and culture, and oversee the delivery of service activities, including those related to the Child Safety and Wellbeing Action Plan.

You will

• Lead and manage the Child Safety and Wellbeing Service, ensuring the effective allocation of human, financial and physical resources, and compliance with Departmental and Government policies, probity standards, codes of conduct and statutory obligations.
• Provide high-level advice to stakeholders, including the Director – Child Safeguarding, the Chief Risk Officer, senior executives within the Department of Health, other government agencies, health professionals and the public, on governance and accountability frameworks, functions, procedures and processes supporting the Tasmanian Child Safe Organisations Framework.
• Oversee the identification, monitoring and analysis of trends, patterns and systemic risks relating to child safeguarding concerns, and provide expert advice to support high-quality triaging, escalation, documentation and systemic learning.
• Lead intelligence gathering, projects, strategic development initiatives and assessment activities relating to child safeguarding and trauma-informed responses, ensuring issues are identified and addressed in line with the Tasmanian Child and Youth Safe Standards.

Details of appointment

Permanent part time, day worker position, working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

Salary

$144,169 to $153,844 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

• Appropriate professional and/or tertiary qualifications in health or health related discipline, public policy or administration.
• Current Driver’s Licence

Position Features

Some intrastate and interstate travel may be required. The position, while based in the South, has statewide responsibility and requires engagement and coordination across Tasmania.
