SALARY:

New York City: $125,600-$149,150, bonus and long-term incentive eligible

St. Louis, MO: $104,800 - $124,450, bonus and long-term incentive eligible

The Category Development team is a fast-paced, human-centric team within the AB Commercial organization. Our north star is optimizing the way the category shows up across channels to drive category growth. Our team draws from a diverse set of data, including secondary sources like Circana, Numerator, as well as leading primary research to ensure we stay on top of this dynamic channel. You will work closely with the rest of the Category Development organization to integrate a category perspective into commercial strategy, IGNITE, and the Vault. We also collaborate and act as subject matter authorities with the Category Field organization, as well as our Channel Sales teams to bring category mentorship and recommendations to our customers.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop our category strategy, conduct research, and work with our commercial field teams to implement solutions with leading retailers and wholesalers. You will be responsible for partnering with our Commercial Sales leadership and our field teams to proactively find opportunities and gaps, synthesize and analyze insights and data, and work without constraints to identify new trends within the channel. Your ability to collaborate cross functionally and advocate for category growth will drive strategy, execution, and impact both internally and externally.

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Develop thought-leadership to be applied across the commercial and retail organizations

  • Develop & cascade in partnership with the total Category Development team; our Retail Category Shelf Strategy, Segment Stories, Annual Forecast, and Category Growth Narrative

  • Partner with data suppliers to identify gaps and opportunities

  • Opportunity to collaborate across channels depending on the project, with exposure across Small Format, Large Format, & eCommerce/Marketplaces.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4 Year bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Must be in office 5 days a week

  • Strategy, Insights, Marketing and/or Sales experience – 5-8 years (at a mid to large CPG or consumer research/strategy agency desired) with Category or sales experience preferred

  • Proactive Thinker – can operate independently and find opportunities, ideas, and needs without clear day-to-day guidance

  • Collaborator in a dynamic and fast paced environment – able to form relationships & influence both internally (Commercial, Category, Sales, Marketing) and externally (Customers) up to senior leadership levels

  • Strong Presentation Skills – has experience speaking publicly to and influencing leadership

  • Curious, Analytical, Creative, Strategic – able to translate shopper behavior and attitudes into practical insights to have a concrete impact at retail

  • Data Literacy – Proficiency with Circana data and Numerator preferred

  • Agile and Fast Learner – able to synthesize data across different qual & quant sources (syndicated, panel, primary, etc.) into easily digestible influential takeaways to tell a story & advise and guide strategy. Need to be able to quickly pick up new data tools and systems.
