What's the role?

As Senior Manager, Business Controls and Monitoring, you'll help strengthen risk management, controls monitoring and risk culture across Retail Bank and Everyday Banking. Partnering with stakeholders across the business, Risk and Compliance community, you'll help ensure operations align with Westpac's risk frameworks, policies, regulatory obligations and risk appetite.

You'll bring a strategic risk lens to activities such as deep dives, read-across reviews, root cause analysis, incident assessment and risk reporting, while identifying opportunities to improve and simplify how risk is managed. You'll also support the monitoring of current and emerging risks, be a trusted risk advisor to the business risk profiling and risk appetite metrics, and use insights, data and continuous improvement thinking to drive better outcomes and stronger risk ownership across the business.

In this role, you'll:

  • Perform deep dives, thematic reviews to identify risks and control gaps and socialise findings with business and risk stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on the identification, assessment and management of risk and control issues.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business, Risk and Compliance functions to influence outcomes and strengthen risk management practices.
  • Support stronger decision-making through quality risk reporting, records and insights.
  • Build risk awareness and capability by coaching and supporting business teams.

What do I need?

We're looking for a strategic risk professional who can navigate complex risk and control environments, challenge existing ways of working and translate insights into practical business outcomes.

You'll be comfortable working independently, partnering with senior stakeholders and helping the business understand not just what the risk is, but why it exists and how it can be addressed sustainably.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience in risk management, business controls, compliance, assurance or a related control environment, with a strong understanding of risk frameworks, policies and controls.
  • Experience supporting activities such as deep dives, root cause analysis, incident assessments, thematic reviews or read-across exercises to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge and translate complex risk matters into clear, actionable insights.
  • A strategic and continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to work autonomously, simplify processes and drive better outcomes across a complex business environment.

Experience in banking, insurance, superannuation, consulting or another large and complex environment would be highly regarded. An ability to leverage data, insights and tools such as Power BI to enhance reporting, visualisation and decision-making would be a significant advantage.
