Senior Manager - Academic Impact (Chief Impact Officer)
JobPurpose
This is an institutional role focusing on "Academic Impact" at IIM Bangalore that requires the person to develop a compelling communication strategy for the social and economic impact of IIM Bangalore. It needs to focus on traditional academic excellence (such as top-tier journal publications and global accreditations) while aggressively advancing real-world translation—demonstrating how the institute’s research, case studies, and policy contributions positively impact industry and society.
The Senior Manager of Academic Impact will lead efforts towards tracking, measurement, and narrative-building of IIMB’s academic and research impact. The incumbent is expected to understand various intellectual contribution of IIMB’s faculty such as publication in scholarly journals, publication of case studies and involvement in projects of national and international importance and Analyse the impact of such contributions on business, government and society. The individual will bridge the gap between rigorous academic output that has been traditionally required for global rankings (FT, QS), international accreditations (EQUIS, AACSB), and national institutional ranking framework (NIRF) and translating those into narratives about societal impact, that is increasingly being demanded by various stakeholders of the institute.

Principal Accountabilities& Responsibilities
Creating Impact Framework and Metric Tracking
Design, implement, and maintain an institutional "Academic Impact Scorecard" to track research citations, policy citations, and industry adoption of IIMB's intellectual output.
Monitor and benchmark institutional performance metrics against top global business schools to feed directly into strategic planning.
Track the lifecycle and reach of IIMB-authored case studies, specifically assessing their adoption rates in global business school curricula.
2. Accreditation, Rankings and Institutional Compliance
Work closely with Accreditation and Ranking office to understand the demands and expectations of accreditation and ranking organizations regarding impact of institutes. Synthesize accreditation and ranking data to create narratives about impact on business, government and society.
Work alongside program offices to measure long-term student outcomes, career trajectories, and alumni impact as indicators of value addition by the institution.
Work closely with IIMB’s Communication team to ensure that impact-narratives are being publicized widely, true to its spirit.
3. Research Translation and Knowledge Mobilization
Collaborate with faculty members to translate highly technical, quantitative research papers into accessible white papers, industry briefs, and media-friendly insights.
Identify high-potential academic insights that can inform public policy, and actively manage outreach channels to relevant government ministries, think tanks, and corporate bodies.
Track and measure the efficacy of consulting projects and executive education programs in solving real-world business challenges.
4. Ecosystem and Stakeholder Coordination
Coordinate with internal centres of excellence (e.g., NSRCEL, Centre for Public Policy) to capture and aggregate institutional impact on the ecosystem
Build a seamless reporting workflow with the Director’s office, IIMB’s Communication office and administrative staff to ensure institutional milestones are perfectly archived and retrievable.
Key Skill and Ability Requirements
Familiarity with academic metrics (h-index, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar citations).
Narrative building and communication abilities in writing, the capacity to turn data and information into a premium institutional report.
Advanced analytical and data visualization skills (Tableau, Power BI, or advanced Excel).
Strong interpersonal skills to navigate stakeholder relationships comfortably across senior faculty leadership and administrative offices.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Qualificationand Personal Profile
Education: A master’s degree in business administration, Data Science, Public Policy, or Economics. A Ph.D. with a strong understanding of academic environments and research methodology is highly preferred.
Experience:
Preferably a minimum of 10 years experience working within higher education administration, corporate strategy, think tanks, or research consulting.
Experience managing data portfolios for international accreditations (AACSB/EQUIS) or highly visible ranking frameworks.
Compensation
The selected candidate will be appointed on a contract basis. The contract is renewable based on satisfactory performance. While the final compensation will be determined by the candidate’s profile, the indicative remuneration is ₹ 17.23 Lakhs per annum, plus additional benefits.
