Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a provider of advanced scientific and engineering expertise, leading diverse groups of engineers and specialists with different technical backgrounds to troubleshoot complex process, component, and product issues related to materials science and chemistry, including:
    • Copper‑metallized ceramic substrates
    • Soldering processes, wire bonding, and product reliability
    • Cleaning and other wet‑chemical processes
    • Semiconductor wafer surface treatment, plating, and coating
    • Metal mechanical parts with surface treatments such as anodizing, plating, and coating
    • Epoxy, underfill, encapsulant, and adhesive systems
    • Thermal pads, greases, films, and TIMs used for heat‑transfer optimization
  • Apply analytical thinking grounded in fundamental engineering principles to challenge assumptions and guide teams toward effective solutions, ensuring all root‑cause analyses are supported by robust technical data. Prepare detailed English technical reports for internal and external use and develop concise presentations for management and customers. This role requires strong hands‑on expertise with failure analysis (FA) tools to support and validate findings from both domestic and international Failure Analysts.
  • The individual is expected to observe manufacturing processes directly and work collaboratively with operators and engineers to gain deep process understanding. Based on these insights, the role will identify and propose technical mini‑projects to improve process robustness, stability, and capability. The candidate must be able to review process data, perform analytical assessments, and execute complex experiments using Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to investigate root causes. They will then lead teams to develop solutions and present follow‑up corrective actions to management.
  • In addition, the individual will collaborate with international experts to support process‑development activities, contribute new process‑improvement strategies, and provide technical support for customer quality issues related to thermoelectric devices and components, including on‑site support at customer facilities when required.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in:

    • Materials Science & Engineering

    • Chemical Engineering (surface chemistry, wet processes, polymers)

    • Metallurgical/Metallurgy Engineering (plating, surface treatments, solder metallurgy)

    • Applied Physics or Microelectronics (device/wafer processes, reliability)
  • 12+ years of experience in a high-tech manufacturing company; Typically requires 7+ years managerial/leadership experience in one or more of:

    • Advanced packaging / module assembly / power electronics / thermoelectrics

    • Semiconductor backend/OSAT (solder attach, wire bonding, molding/underfill)

    • Surface treatment & plating (electroless/electrolytic Ni, Ni P, Ni/Au, Ag, Sn; anodizing)

    • Metallized ceramic substrates (Al₂O₃, AlN, BeO; DBC/AMB/Mo Mn)

    • Wet chemical/cleaning (deionized rinse, ionic contamination, NVR, plasma/UV ozone)

    • Wafer processes (surface prep, thin films, seed/plate, CMP interactions)

    • Polymers for electronics (epoxy, underfill, encapsulants, adhesives; DOE on cure/voiding)

    • TIMs and heat transfer optimization (pads/grease/PCM films; ASTM D5470 or equivalent)

    • Demonstrated ability of leading projects, training and coaching people, achieving goals under resource constraints.

    • Strong knowledge and experience in problem solving and process improvement, using statistical analysis tools

Skills

  • Hands on and very direct approach to problems and demands from production.
  • Ability to anticipate and handle multiple priorities and complex/abstract issues involving external and internal priorities under time constraints.
  • Ability to excel in a cross-organizational, cross-cultural, global team environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with differences of opinions, to influence and draw ideas from others, and to negotiate and mediate.
  • Total Quality management experience
  • Set a high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, and competency

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to some of chemicals, noise, machine operating conditions in manufacturing and lab environment
