About the role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Maintenance Technician to join our technical team. This role is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and overhaul of complex electronic equipment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with operational standards.

The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in fault finding at component level, including SMD repairs, and a deep understanding of signal processing, RF, and audio systems. This role also requires a proactive approach to continuous improvement, technical support, and maintaining high-quality service delivery within defined turnaround times.

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or relevant NQF Level 6 qualification.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience (8 years preferred) in:
    • Fault finding and component-level electronic repairs
    • Maintenance of Surface-Mounted Device (SMD) components.
  • Relevant IPC certification will be advantageous.
  • Experience in signal processing equipment, Radio Frequency (RF), and audio systems.
  • Exposure to Electronic Warfare (EW) systems will be beneficial.

Key technical skills

  • Strong ability to identify and diagnose faults accurately.
  • Proficiency in using advanced diagnostic and electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and block diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of integration between hardware (HW), software (SW), and firmware (FW).
  • Experience with test and measurement equipment, including phase alignment.
  • High level of attention to detail and disciplined workmanship.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Key responsibilities

1. Equipment maintenance, repair and overhaul

  • Perform diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment in line with quality standards.
  • Achieve first-time-right repairs, minimizing rework and customer complaints.
  • Accurately diagnose and resolve faults to reduce downtime and repeat failures.
  • Ensure all repairs are completed within defined turnaround times (TAT).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance repair efficiency and reduce cycle times.
  • Provide technical guidance and support on complex repairs to team members.
  • Optimize the use of spare parts to improve cost efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including repair reports and ERP system updates.
  • Deliver customer training and technical support where required.

2. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

  • Maintain a zero-incident work environment by adhering to all safety standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate workplace hazards proactively.
  • Promote a safety-first culture through regular inspections and awareness initiatives.
