Department Summary
Rec Sports provides programs and services to the university community. The goal is to provide a positive environment to assist those individuals in exploring and learning about recreation and fitness activities, in order to enhance a better quality of life and to become active members of the community. We employ approximately 250 students each year through various programs including intramural sports, informal recreation, group exercise, sport clubs, fitness, faculty/staff fitness, special events, outdoor pursuits and aquatics. This position is responsible for assisting in the overall maintenance of the Pohl Recreation Center and other Rec Sports facilities and field complexes.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance; knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings. Ability to use basic shop math applications. Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs. Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather. Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Ability to obtain Certified Pool Operator certification and Applicator's License within 6 months of hire.
