Job Description

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team at North Mara Mine is seeking to recruit a Senior Maintenance Planner to join and grow our team.

North Mara is building a dedicated Planning & Reliability pillar to transform its HME OC maintenance function. The site is transitioning from a reactive, Excel-heavy approach to a disciplined, SAP-driven planning cadence. The Senior Maintenance Planner is a permanent site-based role reporting to the Senior Planner (HME OC Maintenance), with day-to-day responsibility for executing the rolling maintenance plan, driving SAP compliance, managing maintenance backlogs, and supporting the capability development of local planning staff.

Join our exceptional team and embody Barrick's core values as you work with us. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

  • Communicating Honestly, Transparently, and Acting with Integrity.

  • Exhibiting a Results-Driven approach.

  • Delivering solutions that are Fit for Purpose.

  • Dedicating themselves to Building a Sustainable Legacy.

  • Taking Responsibility and being Accountable.

  • Committing to Zero Harm.

  • Cultivating strong and meaningful Partnerships.

If you're ready to contribute to our world-class team while embracing these values, we encourage you to apply and become a valued member of our diverse workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all Barrick health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and the Mines Health & Safety Act.

  • Develop and maintain accurate rolling maintenance plans for the OC HME fleet to improve equipment availability and reduce unplanned downtime, in support of the rolling planning cadence (24/12/3/1-month/1-week).

  • Coordinate weekly and monthly maintenance scheduling in alignment with production requirements; participate in weekly planning meetings and confirm the upcoming week's schedule with Production.

  • Develop and maintain high-quality job plans, standard work procedures, and PM routines in SAP; ensure job packages are complete, accurate, and ready for execution in advance of scheduled dates.

  • Analyse equipment performance data and SAP maintenance history to identify improvement opportunities, support backlog prioritisation, and contribute to reliability initiatives.

  • Prepare and manage maintenance budgets for the planning function; monitor actual costs versus plan and report on variances to support improved budget forecast accuracy.

  • Ensure critical spares and materials are identified, sourced, and available in advance of planned maintenance activities; coordinate with procurement and Supply Chain.

  • Monitor key planning KPIs — schedule compliance, backlog volume and age, work order closure rate, and planning accuracy — and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.

  • Drive SAP discipline within the planning team: ensure all work orders, notifications, job histories, and time records are accurate and up to date; reduce Excel reliance as a planning tool.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance history and technical data for the mobile fleet within SAP.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop national planning personnel through structured on-the-job training and skills transfer.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior Planner (HME OC Maintenance).

Qualification requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field.

  • Computer literacy: SAP (or equivalent CMMS), Microsoft Office Suite — required.

  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Minimum 5–8 years’ maintenance planning experience in the mining industry, preferably in open cast operations.

  • Strong hands-on experience using SAP PM (or equivalent CMMS) for maintenance planning, work order management, backlog control, and reporting.

  • Proven ability to develop detailed job plans, estimate labour and material requirements, and manage maintenance backlogs against a disciplined scheduling cadence.

  • Experience in budget preparation, cost tracking, and variance reporting.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret maintenance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop national planning team members in a cross-cultural environment.

  • Good understanding of maintenance and scheduling best practices including rolling-horizon planning.

  • Medical fitness for the mining environment.

What We Can Offer You

  • A comprehensive compensation package including bonuses and site-specific benefits.

  • The opportunity to make a real and lasting difference in North Mara's HME OC Maintenance turnaround.

  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team.

  • Structured training, mentoring, and career development opportunities.

  • Access to a variety of career opportunities across the Barrick group.
