About the Role

We're looking for an experienced LiDAR professional to step into a Senior Technical Lead role with our LiDAR Production team in Adelaide. In this hands-on leadership role, you'll oversee pre-processing and post-processing across the full LiDAR production workflow, ensuring all deliverables meet or exceed Australian standard specifications, including ICSM and ASPRS accuracy classifications.

As the team's technical authority, you'll set technical direction, establish best-practice methods, resolve complex data quality issues and mentor junior team members. You'll also work closely with project management and client-facing teams to keep technical outcomes aligned with project specifications, timelines and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership of LiDAR production, including training and mentoring team members to build capability across the Adelaide team.
• Oversee and undertake LiDAR pre-processing: GNSS processing and positional accuracy assessment, raw extraction and validation, strip alignment and accuracy assessment, and data tiling.
• Oversee and undertake LiDAR post-processing: point cloud classification, classification QA and markup, generation of derived products (e.g. DEM, DSM) with associated QA, data management and project reporting.
• Review and approve QA/QC results and deliverables, providing corrective guidance where calibration, classification or derived products fall short of specification.
• Ensure outputs meet project-specific and national LiDAR specifications before delivery, escalating non-conformances where standards cannot be met.
• Develop and maintain SOPs and work instructions for pre-processing and post-processing workflows.
• Drive continuous improvement of production workflows, tools and methodologies.
• Act as LiDAR technical lead for the Data Engineering Team on software development projects.
• Advise sales, flight operations and project management on production capability, capacity, feasibility and timelines across all three product lines.
• Provide technical input into proposals and tenders, including scoping production effort, capture requirements and delivery timelines to support accurate pricing.

About You

You are a hands-on LiDAR specialist and natural technical leader who takes pride in accurate, reliable data. You are just as comfortable working through a complex calibration or classification issue as you are guiding a junior team member, advising project managers on feasibility or explaining technical detail to clients.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Essential

• Extensive hands-on LiDAR production experience, including GNSS/IMU processing, strip alignment, point cloud classification and DEM/DSM generation.
• Proven experience leading, mentoring and training production staff.
• Experience managing QA/QC processes, including accuracy validation and reporting.
• Sound understanding of aerial survey operations and data capture (fixed-wing and/or rotary), including sensor calibration.
• Working knowledge of ICSM Guidelines for Digital Elevation Data and ASPRS accuracy standards.
• Proficiency with industry-standard software such as TerraSolid/TerraScan, LAStools and POSPac.
• Strong understanding of Australian datums and coordinate systems (e.g. GDA2020, AHD).
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, and confidence working with project teams, business units and clients.
• A growth mindset and a can-do attitude.

Desirable

• Experience in large-scale production environments and workflow automation using Python.
• Knowledge of Python spatial libraries (e.g. GDAL, PDAL) and AWS.
• Experience applying geospatial AI/ML tools to production workflows.
• Understanding of the Australian aerial survey and EO industry, including key clients, competitors and regulatory context (e.g. CASA).
