He angitūtanga: The opportunity
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Senior Librarian to join the team for a fixed-term until May 2027. This will be an opportunity to grow, learn and develop their leadership skills within a busy library.
Based at Manurewa Library, you'll primarily support the Manurewa community, with flexibility to work across libraries within the Manurewa-Papakura Local Board as required.
This is a 40-hour per week role, currently worked Monday to Friday, rostered late-night Mondays and Thursdays and working one Saturday per month.
Te hiranga o tēnei mahi: Why this role matters
In this senior, customer-focused role, you'll lead and contribute to the day-to-day delivery of frontline library and services while building meaningful connections with the community and kaimahi. You'll provide leadership and coaching to the team, champion excellent customer service, and help create welcoming library spaces where people feel they belong.
Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities
• Provide strong leadership with excellent communication skills
• Be the senior onsite and have the capability, capacity, confidence and resilience to lead and delegate when required
• Plan, design, and implement process and workflow changes in a collaborative environment
• Be experienced in library operational systems and processes
• Upskill, mentor and provide guidance to other staff in Manurewa Library and across the local board
• Have a good understanding of health, safety, security and wellbeing needs when working in a publicly accessible community space

He kōrero mōu: About you
• A recognised library qualification or relevant tertiary qualification
• LIANZA professional registration preferred (or be working towards it)
• Proven leadership, coaching, and team development experience
• Excellent digital and information literacy, with confidence supporting customers and staff
• A commitment to embedding te ao Māori and te reo Māori into everyday practice to deliver culturally responsive services
• A full New Zealand driver's licence is preferred
