He angitūtanga: The opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Librarian Community Engagement to join the team on a fixed-term or secondment basis until 31 July 2027. You’ll be primarily based at Glen Innes Library, with flexibility to work across libraries within the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board as required.

This is a 31-hour per week role, worked Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

In this senior, community-focused role, you’ll lead and contribute to the day-to-day delivery of frontline library services while growing Glen Innes Library’s reach and connection across the community. You’ll provide leadership and coaching to the team, champion excellent customer service, and build strong relationships that support community-led opportunities and meaningful outcomes for the people of Glen Innes. You’ll balance community engagement with the changing operational needs of a busy library.

• Provide strong leadership with excellent communication skills
• Build trusted relationships with community groups, organisations and stakeholders
• Collaborate with community and partners to co-design inclusive initiatives that respond to local aspirations
• Act as the senior onsite when required, making sound operational decisions
• Champion excellent customer service and welcoming, safe and inclusive library spaces
• Upskill, mentor and provide guidance to kaimahi in Glen Innes Library and across the local board
• Support staff capability, operational planning and collaboration across the local board area

He kōrero mōu: About you

• A recognised library qualification or relevant tertiary qualification
• LIANZA professional registration (or be actively working towards it)
• Proven leadership, coaching, and team development experience
• Strong community engagement, relationship-building, co-design, facilitation and collaboration skills
• Excellent digital and information literacy, with confidence supporting customers and kaimahi
• A commitment to embedding te ao Māori and te reo Māori into everyday practice to deliver culturally responsive services
• A full New Zealand driver's licence is preferred
• The ability to speak a community language is an advantage

Salary: Band G, $91 - $107K per annum, depending on skills & experience
