Job Description

Perth Airport is Australia’s Western Hub connecting the people, businesses and communities of Western Australia with the rest of Australia and the world. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year, Perth Airport plays a significant role in providing economic, social and cultural benefits to West Australians.

Perth Airport is investing more than $5 billion in new infrastructure so we can support our airline partners to grow, offering more services to new destinations and an improved customer experience. This will be the largest funded private equity build in Western Australia for the last 30 years.

Over the coming decade we will expand T1 International, and build new domestic terminal facilities, a parallel runway, two multi-storey carparks and our first airport hotel. This will deliver one airport for the people of Western Australia which will host all flight services in a central location giving passengers a seamless, world-class travel experience.

The Perth Airport estate is spread over 2100 hectares and has developed a $1.5 billion portfolio of existing industrial premises and significant vacant land holdings.

We service a truly diverse community and play an important role in strengthening cultural, family and social bonds while supporting business, tourism and leisure travel.

We are on the lookout for a Senior Legal Counsel to provide expert legal support across Perth Airport’s major capital works portfolio. In this role, you will partner with project, commercial and leadership teams to deliver practical, timely and commercially sound legal advice across procurement, contracts, claims, risk and project delivery.

What you'll do:

  • Provide strategic legal advice across major project procurement and delivery activities.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and administer complex commercial contracts and legal documents.
  • Identify legal, project and operational risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
  • Support claims management, contract administration and dispute-related matters as they arise.
  • Advise the business on areas including WHS, planning, environment, privacy, property and insurance.
  • Manage external legal advisors and help ensure quality, value and consistency of advice.
  • Contribute to legal governance, policy development, training materials and stakeholder education.
  • Support the preparation of reports and Board, Executive and Committee papers when required.

About you:

  • You completed a Law degree from an Australian institution or equivalent.
  • You hold a current practising certificate, or you are eligible to obtain one.
  • 8+ years experience in private practice or an in-house legal role.
  • Strong experience in construction, engineering or major project legal work.
  • Proven ability to deliver strategic, timely and commercially sound legal advice across project delivery.
  • You are confident preparing contracts, legal risk assessments and written legal advice.
  • You build strong working relationships and bring discretion, integrity and sound judgement.
  • You are collaborative, adaptable and able to work autonomously in a complex environment.

About Us:

We offer a dynamic and supportive team culture, a contemporary workplace with great facilities and a modern approach to work/life integration. Our competitive remuneration package comes with additional company benefits including free parking.

Perth Airport is an Equal Opportunities Employer. We are committed to building an equitable and diverse workforce representative of the community we serve. We encourage and welcome applications from all communities and backgrounds.

About Perth Airport

As the gateway to Western Australia, Perth Airport is Australia’s fourth largest airport in terms of passenger traffic and plays a vital role in the economic and social development of the state.

Only 12 kilometres from the heart of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, the airport is part of a 2,105 hectare estate that offers significant aeronautical infrastructure, and high quality commercial and industrial developments that are primely located near major access corridors.

Perth Airport is operated by Perth Airport Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Perth Airport Development Group Pty Ltd, under a 50-year lease with a 49-year option granted by the Commonwealth Government in 1997.

Perth Airport is closely involved with Tourism WA in promoting Western Australia as an attractive destination for overseas visitors and has a strong focus on working with airlines to increase the number of passengers travelling to and from Western Australia.

With more than16 million passengers travelling through the airport annually, this number is expected to grow to 34 million passengers by 2034.

Perth Airport has announced a $5bn infrastructure program which will include a new terminal, two new multi-storey car parks, an airport hotel and a new parallel runway. This program is due to be completed by 2031.
