Job Description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join our team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel, Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Equity-Linked Capital Markets (ELCM) and Mergers & Acquisition (M&A).

Join a high-performing Legal Team in HSBC’s CIB business, where you’ll advise on complex, high-profile Equity Capital Markets (ECM), and Mergers & Acquisition (M&A) transactions in MENAT and ELCM transactions in EMEA. You’ll work alongside senior stakeholders on market-leading deals, influence commercial outcomes, and develop deep expertise in an internationally recognised legal function that values collaboration, technical excellence and career growth.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Provide strategic legal advice and risk management across ECM, ELCM and M&A transactions from execution through to completion
  • Partner with senior business stakeholders to deliver commercially focused legal solutions, proactively identifying, assessing and mitigating legal and reputational risks
  • Lead negotiations on transaction documentation while managing relationships with external counsel, ensuring legal advice is delivered efficiently and represents value for the business
  • Contribute to the continuous development of legal best practice by mentoring colleagues, supporting governance and regulatory compliance and driving collaboration across the wide Global Legal function
  • Ensure legal advice remains aligned with HSBC policies, regulatory requirements and governance standards, supporting effective risk management and maintaining the integrity of the bank’s control environment

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Qualified Lawyer with strong experience advising on ECM, ELCM and M&A transactions within a leading law firm or a financial institution in our key jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice while managing complex legal and regulatory risks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience building trusted relationships across senior business leaders, legal colleagues and external advisers
  • Strong judgement, communication and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure
  • Ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory issues, exercise sound commercial judgement, and communicate practical, risk-based advice clearly to a diverse range of stakeholders.
