Senior Legal Counsel

The Opportunity

As a Senior Legal Counsel within Hitachi Energy’s renewable energy business, you will provide legal support across a broad range of corporate and commercial matters that support business operations in the power industry. In this role, you will advise on contract negotiations, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance matters, and legal risk management while partnering with business, finance, HR, compliance, and other functions. You will draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements, oversee external legal counsel on complex matters, support dispute resolution activities, and provide guidance on legal and regulatory developments affecting the business. Your work will help support compliant and effective business operations by identifying legal risks, developing mitigation strategies, and advising stakeholders on regulatory obligations and commercial arrangements. You will also contribute to business continuity through practical legal guidance, training, and collaboration across functions while expanding your experience in commercial law, regulatory compliance, international business law, and cross-border transactions.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Provide legal advice and support on business operations, contract negotiations, commercial transactions, and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and internal policies.
  • Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies to reduce potential exposure and support business continuity.
  • Manage external legal counsel on complex matters while supporting cost-effective outcomes.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and advise the business on impacts and required adjustments.
  • Develop and deliver legal training on legal topics and compliance requirements.
  • Support litigation and dispute resolution activities, including legal research and document preparation.
  • Collaborate with business units, finance, HR, compliance, and other functions on legal and commercial matters.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in good standing in at least one relevant jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of post-qualification experience as a practicing attorney, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience in a multinational corporation.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial law, contract negotiation, and regulatory compliance, with understanding of international business law and cross-border transactions.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively while working independently and within a team environment.
