About the role
In this newly created role, you'll have the autonomy to influence strategy, systems, intelligence capabilities and detection frameworks while building a proactive and intelligence-led approach to managing financial crime risk.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Crime Operations, you'll combine strategic leadership with hands-on operational oversight, leading intelligence, analytics, transaction monitoring and optimisation activities that help protect our members, communities and organisation from evolving financial crime threats.
Specifically, you will:
• Lead the bank's financial crime intelligence and detection strategy.
• Drive intelligence, analytics and transaction monitoring capabilities.
• Develop and optimise monitoring rules to improve threat detection.
• Lead financial crime systems development, maintenance and enhancement.
• Deliver actionable intelligence and insights to support decision-making.
• Identify emerging threats, typologies and control gaps.
• Build strong partnerships with regulators, law enforcement and industry bodies.
• Support audits, reviews and regulatory engagement activities.
• Drive continuous improvement, automation and operational efficiencies.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team focused on intelligence excellence.
About you
You are a collaborative leader who builds trusted relationships, develops capability and influences outcomes through credibility and clear communication. You bring a curious and analytical mindset, balancing strategic thinking with operational execution while fostering accountability, continuous improvement and team success.
We also seek:
• Extensive experience in financial crime intelligence within banking or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of AML/CTF, fraud, scams, sanctions and regulatory obligations.
• Experience leading intelligence, analytics or transaction monitoring functions.
• Strong understanding of financial crime typologies, detection methodologies and emerging threats.
• Proven ability to design and optimise intelligence frameworks, controls and monitoring rules.
• Experience engaging with regulators, law enforcement and executive stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success leading complex initiatives, change programs and operational improvements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications in Financial Crime, Risk Management, Business, Commerce, Law or a related discipline are highly regarded, along with professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA or equivalent.
Location
As our operational teams are based in Adelaide, Toowoomba and Brisbane, candidates from these locations are highly welcomed as well as Sydney and Melbourne based applicants.
