Provides support to WIM in providing services to affluent, high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, families, family offices and charities. BL&T further provides legal guidance on a variety of banking and fiduciary topics including investment management, general trust administration, specialty trusts, custody, tax, specialty assets, regulatory, privacy, ecommerce, deposit relationship and strategy, and business strategies.

The Senior Lead Wealth Underwriter is responsible for the independent analysis, structuring, and underwriting of highly complex commercial credit relationships for law firm clients. This role supports the Legal Specialty Group (LSG) by partnering closely with Private Bankers and Regional Directors to deliver customized credit solutions that balance risk, regulatory requirements, and an exceptional client experience. The position requires deep technical expertise, strong judgment, and the ability to lead credit discussions with minimal supervision.


In this role, you will:

  • Analyze, structure, and underwrite complex commercial credit relationships with significant aggregate exposure in accordance with business unit standards and WIM Credit Policy.
  • Compile, analyze, and document detailed borrower, financial, credit risk, and collateral information to support credit decisions.
  • Manage and monitor a complex portfolio of law firm clients, proactively identifying risks, trends, and opportunities.
  • Conduct industry, market, and client-specific research to support credit recommendations, including management and industry studies as required.
  • Review and negotiate loan documentation and credit provisions; lead discussions with internal partners and external legal counsel.
  • Exercise independent credit judgment while ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Communicate credit recommendations clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Regularly service existing credits, communicate findings to management in a timely manner, and recommend appropriate risk mitigation or restructuring solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to cross‑sell additional products and services in partnership with relationship teams.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters, including reviewing analyses and offering constructive feedback as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Wealth Underwriting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Preferred competencies include legal industry experience, capital markets expertise. Formal commercial credit training desirable. Wealth related underwriting/lending experience a plus.

  • Extensive investment banking or corporate/commercial related experience in commercial underwriting or portfolio management. Thorough knowledge of financial accounting theory and logic, loan structuring, commercial products and services is needed for this role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills are essential. Candidate must have the ability to interact with Senior Management and/or Risk Management on strategic issues/initiatives. Must have top partnering skills; the ability to interpret and discuss analytical data; and the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Proficient with computers and software applications (MSA, MS Excel, MS Word, other MS Office Suite applications, etc.) and applicable mainframe systems. Proven history of credit authority.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred


Job Expectations:

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$191,000.00 - $305,000.00
