This Senior Lead Engineer within the Automation team under the Marmon Chief Innovation Office will manage activities related to the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of automated systems. Key activities include defining system architecture, performing design and financial calculations, conducting automation vendor landscaping, developing simulations using Visual Components, Simio, or equivalent software, preparing manufacturing drawings, and generating technical reports. The role is accountable for the quality of deliverables and for ensuring successful procurement, delivery, and commissioning of automated systems.

Mandatory Skills:

• 8+ years of experience driving manufacturing automation, industrial engineering, process improvement, or factory modernization initiatives.
• Proven experience leading automation projects from concept through deployment in manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, industrial automation systems, and operational excellence principles.
• Experience defining automation requirements, preparing technical specifications, and evaluating automation technologies with limited operational inputs.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, line balancing, process optimization, workflow analysis, and productivity improvement methodologies.
• Experience performing feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis, ROI calculations, and capital investment justification.
• Strong expertise in process mapping, FMEA, root cause analysis, value engineering, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience working with robotics, material handling systems, assembly automation, machine vision, or industrial control systems.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, inspection methodologies, and quality control requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and system integrators throughout project execution.
• Strong project management, technical documentation, and engineering communication skills.

Desired Skills:

• Provide technical leadership for factory automation initiatives from concept development through implementation and operational stabilization.
• Knowledge in simulation and digital manufacturing tools such as Simio, Visual Components, FlexSim, or equivalent platforms.
• Lead development and review of manufacturing layouts, automation concepts, process simulations, equipment specifications, and system architecture documentation.
• Drive implementation of robotics, collaborative robots (Cobots), AGVs/AMRs, machine vision, industrial controls, and IIoT-enabled manufacturing solutions.
• Apply advanced engineering analysis, simulation studies, productivity modeling, and digital manufacturing techniques to optimize manufacturing performance.
• Lead supplier technical engagement, qualification, FAT/SAT activities, and commissioning support for automation systems.
• Drive design-for-manufacturing, process capability improvement, operational excellence, and manufacturing scalability initiatives.
• Support Smart Factory, Industry 4.0, data analytics, and connected manufacturing programs.
• Identify innovation opportunities through technology scouting, benchmarking, and collaboration with business units and external partners.
• Lead cross-functional reviews and ensure alignment between engineering, operations, quality, EHS, and business objectives.
• Mentor engineers and support development of automation standards, technical governance, and best practices across Marmon businesses.

• Exposure to MES, ERP systems, and manufacturing data analytics platforms.
• Project Management certification or equivalent project execution experience.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing automation, industrial engineering, operational excellence, or factory modernization.
• Demonstrated technical leadership in executing complex automation and process improvement projects.
• Proven ability to independently manage projects while influencing cross-functional global stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities with a structured engineering approach.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Proactive, results-driven, and committed to delivering measurable business value through automation and innovation initiatives.
• B1/B2 Visa and ready to travel
