The Role

As a Senior Layout Engineer, responsible for development and integration of automotive manufacturing system layouts, ensuring seamless coordination between customers, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to deliver efficient, install-ready production systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain zone layouts and integrated manufacturing layouts
  • Ensure proper placement, accessibility, and reach envelope validation of robotic systems, tooling, fixtures, and automation equipment
  • Coordinate and develop all internal and external integrated 3D layout design activities
  • Gather, review, and consolidate project requirements, technical specifications, and layout inputs from customers, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Document and communicate layout decisions, engineering changes, customer requirements, and supplier updates to ensure alignment across project stakeholders
  • Create and release installation drawings to the manufacturing department and customer installation group
  • Review all mechanical engineering drawings prior to final release, ensuring compliance for customer buyoffs
  • Creating, maintaining, and managing Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment lists, and project tracking documentation
  • Travel to customer and manufacturing facilities to conduct on-site plant walks and field checks to verify equipment locations, identify as-built deviations, and update 2D/3D layouts to accurately reflect installed conditions
  • Serve as the primary contact for system layout activities with customers, suppliers, and internal program teams within a project

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent
  • Experience with virtual placement of robotic systems in a manufacturing facility utilizing CAD software
  • 7+ years experience in system layout or plant layout preferably with automated robotic systems
  • Expertise in designing and utilizing AutoCAD 3D or 2D
  • FactoryCAD experience is highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of Siemens NX for 3D model translation and design collaboration
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Teamcenter experience is a plus

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
