The Role

We have a rare opportunity for a Senior Associate or experienced lawyer / associate to join our Financial Services Regulatory team in Sydney.

Working closely with Partner Craig Hine as part of a broad Financial Services Regulatory team, this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced senior lawyer who is keen to develop their financial services skillset across a varied, complex and intellectually stimulating practice.

You will act on a variety of regulatory matters spanning retail banking, consumer credit, AML/CTF, payments and privacy. You will also have an opportunity to act on regulatory aspects of high value M&A transactions and securitisations. This is a diverse practice, where you will have exposure to challenging but rewarding matters across a broad portfolio of clients.

As a senior member of the team, you will play a lead role in driving matters with autonomy and building relationships with clients, as well as shaping the future of the practice through contributing to business development initiatives, knowledge sharing and mentoring junior members of the team.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 4+ years' post qualification experience, with a strong background in banking and financial services regulation gained in a reputable commercial law firm.

  • Strong academic record.

  • Good understanding of the NCCP Act and/or Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act.

  • AML/CTF, privacy and payments experience is advantageous.

In addition to this, we're looking for a motivated self-starter. Someone who is able to work autonomously with confidence, has excellent attention to detail and is committed to providing outstanding service to their clients.

What Can We Offer?

  • Cutting edge AI-enabled tools and infrastructure to support our delivery of innovative, first-tier legal services to our clients.

  • Career Growth: Merit-based promotion pathways, backed and supported by partners who invest in your success.

  • Culture and Environment: A truly collegiate workplace that values connection and collaboration.

  • Reward and Recognition: Market-leading financial incentives, including a competitive remuneration and bonus structure that rewards high performance.

About Clayton Utz

We are one of Australia's oldest and largest law firms, with offices in six cities, nearly 200 partners, and a full range of legal services for large private sector and government clients.

But we're more interested in talking about you, and with you.

It's why, wherever you are, we give you advice that connects with you. Advice that isn't just a one-size-fits-all solution taken off a shelf, but that reflects who you are, and what you need. Advice created by lawyers with different experiences and different views, but united by an entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do attitude, confidence in each other, and pride in helping you achieve.

As you might have noticed, we like speaking plainly. While we like thinking creatively to help you, we won't give you an answer hidden by legal jargon, or that doesn't reflect our honest opinion. Our clients value that, and trust us with their most important work. And we work hard to deserve that trust.
