What’s the role?

The Lawyer/Senior Lawyer will support the Consumer Bank division and provide trusted advice to deliver on our strategic priorities. This role is to build additional capacity to have a key role in supporting a broad range of initiatives to grow deposits, strengthen customer engagement through digital channels, including the Mobile App transformation and customer personalisation programs.

As a trusted advisor, you will be across regulatory and industry developments and help shape our responses to emerging issues. This is a dynamic opportunity to partner closely with business leaders, influence outcomes, and contribute to the success of becoming our customers #1 banking partner for life. The role partners closely with Delivery units, Digital and Marketing teams to support end-to-end customer journeys — from product design through to customer communications — ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations while enabling innovation and digital acquisition.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide clear, actionable legal advice across the full customer lifecycle, including product design, distribution, customer communications and digital acquisition
  • Support delivery squads, Marketing and Digital teams on campaigns, initiatives and customer journey changes
  • Advise on third-party arrangements, including referral partnerships and digital distribution models
  • Contribute to website uplifts, customer communications, training materials and regulatory guidance
  • Support initiatives aligned to improving NPS, including digital experience and personalisation programs
  • Deliver advice in relation to regulatory frameworks, including Spam Act, privacy obligations , financial services regulation including Corporations Act including Design and Distribution Obligations and ASIC Act and respective bank subscribed codes
  • Work closely with Risk and Compliance to ensure customer outcomes and legal risks are appropriately managed

What do I need?

  • 8 – 10+ years PQE as a lawyer at a reputable law firm and/or in-house at a financial service
  • Hold a current practicing certificate
  • Strong understanding of financial services regulation, including Chapter 7, ASIC Act, Privacy and Spam Act
  • Proven ability to advise on customer-facing initiatives, including product, marketing and digital assets
  • Experience supporting end-to-end customer journeys or distribution models (highly regarded)
  • Commercial, solutions-focused approach with sound legal judgement
  • Confident engaging with senior stakeholders and translating complex issues into clear, practical guidance
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
