Job Description

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation

• Perform detailed failure analysis investigations on fiber laser units and subsystems, including:

• Optical components (fiber, collimators, isolators, lenses)

• Laser diodes and pump modules

• Power electronics and control boards

• Apply structured root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Why, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, DMAIC).

• Conduct electrical, optical, mechanical, and thermal diagnostics to identify failure mechanisms.

• Validate failure hypotheses through experimentation, testing, and data analysis.

2. Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare clear, structured technical reports documenting:

• Failure symptoms

• Investigation methods

• Root causes

• Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

• Present investigation findings and recommendations to engineering, quality, production, and management teams.

• Maintain comprehensive failure databases and trend analysis dashboards.

3. Corrective Actions & Implementation

• Propose engineering solutions to resolve identified issues.

• Work with design, process, manufacturing, and supplier teams to implement corrective actions.

• Validate effectiveness of solutions through testing, verification, and reliability evaluation.

• Drive continuous product reliability improvement initiatives.

4. Failure Analysis Lab & Equipment Management

• Maintain the failure analysis station, ensuring:

• Equipment calibration and traceability

• Proper tooling availability

• Safe operation of optical and electrical systems

• Develop and improve test procedures, diagnostic tools, and fixtures.

• Ensure compliance with laser safety, electrical safety, and ESD standards.

5. RMA & Customer Support

• Provide technical support for RMA investigation and closure.

• Interface with customer service, sales, and field service teams to:

• Clarify failure symptoms

• Expedite root cause identification

• Provide technical feedback to customers when required

• Support urgent investigations for critical customer escalations.

Required Skills:

• Requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent experience and 5 years of related experience in Fiber Laser systems

• ​Min. 3 years of experience in Failure Analysis, Reliability engineering,

• Has experience with Laser systems or optoelectronics diagnostics

(Fresh graduates with strong laser or photonics research experience may be considered.)

• Strong understanding of fiber laser architecture and operation, pump diode lasers and drivers, beam delivery systems and fiber optics, optical isolation and beam shaping

• Experience in Optical alignment, beam profiling, power and spectral measurements.

• Knowledge on the use of fusion splicer, precision fiber cleaver, fiber strippers, oscilloscopes, power meters

• Good knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies and troubleshooting tools

• Competent in MS Excel (Data analysis, charts, pivot tables)

• Competent in Statistical tools (Minitab, JMP or Python preferred)

• Operates in a professional office and cleanroom environment
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
• Ability to observe documents and details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
• Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards including handling mechanical and electrical hardware, high voltage, gas, water, and heat
• Noise level in the work environment is low
