Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Landscape Designer will lead the design and management of multiple or larger scale landscape and irrigation projects. This role requires a deep understanding of landscape architecture principles, strong project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, team members, and regulatory agencies. The Senior Landscape Designer will also be responsible for quality control, staff oversight, and ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with ISO standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple landscape and irrigation projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  • Work closely with project team members, clients, and agencies to maintain project schedules and resolve any issues.
  • Achieve or exceed individual utilization targets.
  • Delegate work and oversee the development of junior staff members.
  • Train backup personnel to ensure role coverage in your absence
  • Prepare and review research summaries, design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for approval.
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices as required.
  • Attend bi-weekly or more frequent meetings with the project team on all projects and tasks.
  • Prepare detailed landscape and irrigation plans.
  • Produce high-quality presentation and design graphics for client presentations and community group meetings.
  • Conduct site research and analysis to determine project feasibility, density, and constraints.
  • Draft schematic land use, landscape/wetland mitigation, and forest stand delineation plans.
  • Conduct field construction observations and prepare detailed reports for review.
  • Perform field inspections, compare field data to design plans, and gather necessary data such as measurements, sketches, and photographs.
  • Oversee the review and approval of shop drawings and ensure all design work meets company standards and client expectations.
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements and participate in quality control and plan reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for clients, community groups, and at public hearings or county meetings as required.
  • Represent the company at meetings with clients, county officials, and seminars.
  • Complete other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring Landscape Architecture projects.
  • Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment. Motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Preferred:

  • Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) eligibility
  • Additional industry certifications
