Job Description
- Builds and/or adapts unique setup and test equipment for complex tests using independent judgment.
- Applies working knowledge of applicable test requirements and performs tests using general laboratory equipment.
- Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.
- Operates a computer to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.
- Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
- Determines need for and seeks consultation from engineers or laboratory technicians.
- Analyzes test results.
- Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
- Receives instructions from and reports data to supervisor and personnel in engineering and laboratory operations as needed.
- Prepares data sheets and records observed or calculated test results.
- Assembles test data for appropriate distribution.
- Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- Prepare samples, solutions and materials according to work instruction and procedures
- Perform assigned tests, measurements, or observations under appropriate supervision and within the authorised scope of work
- Monitor ongoing work and promptly report unusual results, damaged samples, deviations, or other concerns
- Assist in set up, clean, check, and store laboratory instruments, glassware, tools
- Carry out basic equipment checks and routine maintenance as instructed, and maintain the relevant logs.
- Report equipment faults, overdue calibration, damage, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor without delay.
- Follow laboratory safety rules, standard operating procedures, risk controls, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Handle chemicals, specimens, and hazardous materials safely and refer to applicable safety information before use.
- Maintain laboratory worksheets, logbooks, and other controlled records so that work remains traceable
- Assist with audits, corrective actions, proficiency activities, or document preparation when assigned
- Support filing, data entry, and other routine administrative work
- Coordinate with colleagues to support an efficient laboratory workflow and meet agreed priorities
- Communicate sample, equipment, and scheduling issues clearly and in a timely manner
- Participate in training, competency assessments, safety activities, and process-improvement initiatives
- Perform other reasonable laboratory-support duties assigned by the supervisor, consistent with training and competence
- Degree or Higher diploma in Science plus one to two years related experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
