The Senior Java Developer w/ Angular will design, develop, and enhance software applications using Java, Angular, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and related technologies. The role includes developing user interfaces, microservices, and web services; collaborating with cross-functional and technical teams; developing and maintaining automated tests; supporting code quality and architecture improvements; and providing guidance to junior and mid-level developers.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development and Architecture
- Design and develop software applications using the Twelve-Factor App methodology, based on functional requirements.
- Develop applications using Angular, Java, REST APIs, and Spring Boot.
- Design and develop microservices using Spring Boot, Java, and RESTful architecture.
- Design and develop high-throughput, low-latency systems capable of handling large volumes of concurrent requests with minimal response times.
- Design and develop scalable solutions and single-page applications.
- Develop SOAP-based web services using JAX-WS, Apache Axis, and Web Services Description Language (WSDL).
UI and Web Development
- Develop innovative user interfaces and web components through collaboration and dialogue with other experts.
- Implement graphical user interfaces using AngularJS, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, CSS, XML, AJAX, and jQuery.
- Design responsive web pages with consideration for cross-browser limitations and compliance standards.
- Design web page components compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d).
- Assess advancements in technology and recommend solutions that improve the software development experience and efficient delivery of software.
DevOps and Cloud Development
- Apply DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes.
- Work with Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Nexus, Maven, SonarQube, Fortify, and UrbanCode Deploy.
- Design and deploy cloud-native applications onto AWS with PostgreSQL.
- Work with cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and containerization technologies.
Testing and Code Quality
- Develop unit test cases for Java classes using real-world scenarios and frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, and PowerMock.
- Apply automated unit testing, Test Driven Development (TDD), and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) using tools such as Cucumber.
- Use static code analyzers such as SonarQube and address recommended technical debt, including bugs, vulnerabilities, and hotspots.
- Address security vulnerabilities in web applications.
Collaboration and Technical Support
- Collaborate with product design and engineering teams to understand needs.
- Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and project managers.
- Attend customer technical discussions, design meetings, and development meetings.
- Provide viable technical solutions to enhance existing architecture and improve code quality and processes.
- Provide guidance and support to junior and mid-level developers.
- Continue learning and stay updated on emerging technologies.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.
Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years of experience with Java, Spring Boot, Angular, and React. [Required]
- Extensive design and programming experience with Java and JEE technologies. [Required]
- Extensive hands-on experience with UI frameworks such as Angular. [Required]
- Experience working on Agile projects and strong knowledge of Agile terminology and tools. [Required]
- Experience designing high-throughput and low-latency systems using Java and Angular. [Required]
- Experience developing applications using Single-Page Application architecture. [Required]
- Strong experience with Java, Angular 9 and above, Spring Boot, and REST APIs. [Required]
- Experience designing and deploying cloud-native applications onto AWS with PostgreSQL. [Required]
- Hands-on design and development experience with microservices and RESTful APIs. [Required]
- Experience with web services technologies, including XML, JAXP, JAXB, JAX-WS, AXIS, JERSEY, JSON, CXF, REST, and SOAP. [Required]
- Experience with security technologies including LTPA and OAuth2/JWT. [Required]
- Experience with JEE technologies, including Struts, Spring Framework (IoC, MVC, Transactions, Security, and Batch), Spring Boot, Spring JDBC, JPA, Hibernate, SOAP/RESTful, XML, DB2, Tomcat, and WebSphere. [Required]
- Experience with static code analyzers such as SonarQube and addressing recommended technical debt. [Required]
- Experience with automated unit testing, mocking frameworks, TDD, and BDD using Cucumber. [Required]
- Experience coding responsive web pages with an understanding of cross-browser limitations and browser compliance standards. [Required]
- Experience with modern software development tools for continuous integration, including Jenkins, Git/Bitbucket, Jira, Nexus, Maven, SonarQube, Fortify, and UrbanCode Deploy. [Required]
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. [Required]
- Knowledge of security vulnerabilities in web applications and methods for addressing them. [Required]

Preferred Qualifications
Skills
- Proficiency in designing and implementing Kafka-based event-driven architectures, including Kafka producers, consumers, topics, partitions, and consumer groups for scalable and fault-tolerant data streaming.
- Experience configuring Kafka brokers, managing message retention policies, and optimizing throughput through replication and partitioning strategies.
- Familiarity with Kafka Connect for data ingestion and Kafka Streams for real-time data processing.
- Experience monitoring Kafka clusters for performance and reliability.
- Strong understanding of current trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the ability to apply AI knowledge to enhance or redesign existing system architectures.
- Ability to identify opportunities where AI-driven solutions can add value, improve efficiency, or enable new capabilities.
- Experience implementing Section 508 standards for web applications.
- Exposure to writing technical white papers and systems design documents.
- Prior experience with federal or state government IT projects.
