A position has arisen within our Information Systems team for a Senior Java Developer, reporting to the Web Development Manager. This is a permanent, full time role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional teams to design and deliver solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new components, services, and features, ensuring timely delivery and clear communication of project status to stakeholders.
  • Apply expertise in microservices architecture to develop scalable, resilient, and high-performance solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and third-party solutions, and manage vendor integrations to enhance system capabilities.
  • Design and develop secure, maintainable, and robust technical solutions aligned with industry best practices and organizational standards.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, guidelines, and standards; actively contribute to improving departmental processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with QA teams and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive testing and quality assurance of delivered solutions.
  • Contribute to strategic objectives and departmental goals, driving innovation and operational excellence.

Requirements

Third Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Computer Science or IT Degree or equivalent 3rd Level Education

Industry Experience:

  • 5+ years Java/J2EE and related technologies, preferrable with Spring ecosystem.

Specific systems knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of Spring technologies (Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Batch and Integration)
  • Experienced in developing APIs, primarily REST.
  • Experienced with build tools like Maven, Gradle.
  • Experienced in coding for web application security.
  • Experience of SQL & RDBMS development (Oracle, MySql)
  • Experience of source control (GIT) and use of IDE (VS Code, IntelliJ).
  • Working knowledge of Linux.
  • Experience working within a recognised software development lifecycle such as Agile or Waterfall.
  • Working knowledge of web analytics & best practice for integrating into online applications.
  • Practical experience with AI-powered development tools and agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) to support the software development lifecycle, including tasks such as code generation, code review, refactoring, and documentation.

Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience in building and managing CI/CD pipelines and implementing DevOps practices with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and Jenkins.
  • Hands-on expertise in developing Ansible Playbooks and Azure Bicep templates for automated provisioning and configuration management.
  • Exposure to cloud-native computing, with familiarity in major cloud platforms such as Azure(preferably), AWS, or GCP considered a strong advantage.
  • Experience within the financial services domain is highly desirable.
