Senior IT Systems and Network Administrator

This position reports directly to the Project Director with a secondary reporting line to the VP IT. The Senior IT Systems and Network Administrator is responsible for managing on-site IT resources, partners, vendors, and contractors to collectively deliver reliable IT Infrastructure and Solutions across multiple regional locations, including remote mining sites. This role demands a combination of strong technical expertise in systems and network administration and adaptability to dynamic environments. The incumbent will support and maintain complex Microsoft-based systems and Cisco network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance to meet operational demands. This role will lead a small group of internal and external IT resources while delivering against centrally defined standards and frameworks.

Primary Responsibilities

Department Management and Coordination:

  • Standard supervisory duties such as departmental budgeting and cost control, team development, and delivery against SLA’s.

Systems Administration (Microsoft Platform):

  • Server Management:
    • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
    • Manage virtualized environments (VMware) to support system scalability and performance.
    • Perform regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and system updates

  • User and Device Management:
    • Oversee user account provisioning and permissions via Active Directory and Azure AD.
    • Support Office 365 applications, Microsoft Teams, and Exchange Online.
    • Ensure endpoint management through tools like Microsoft Intune or Airwatch.
  • Security
    • Implement and maintain security policies, patch management, and next-gen endpoint protection solutions.
    • Monitor and mitigate cybersecurity threats in compliance with company standards.

Network Administration (Cisco Platform):

  • Infrastructure Management:
    • Work with the Network Manager to locally configure, monitor, and maintain Cisco routers, switches, VLANS, and firewalls.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve network performance issues, including latency, packet loss, and outages.

  • Wireless and Remote Connectivity:
    • Support and maintain wireless network solutions across remote and urban locations
  • Monitoring and Optimization:
    • Continuously monitor and optimize network performance to meet operational needs, particularly in high-demand or remote locations

Support for Remote Mining Operations

  • On-Site Support:
    • Provide hands-on support for hardware and software issues at remote sites, including basic peripherals and industrial IT systems.
    • Train on-site staff in basic IT troubleshooting and ensure proper use of IT systems
    • deploy, configure and troubleshoot IT systems and networks
    • Ensure IT infrastructure at remote locations is operational and aligned with corporate standards


Skills & Qualifications Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as MCSE, CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience managing teams, IT systems and network administration for medium to large companies with complex infrastructure requirements.
  • Experience in industries with remote operations, such as mining, oil & gas, or utilities, is an asset.
  • Experience leading medium to large-scale business projects.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft systems, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, Office 365, and MDM.
  • In-depth working experience with Cisco network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Working proficiency with virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, VMware).
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Barracuda).
  • Working knowledge of IT security principles and tools (e.g., endpoint protection, firewalls).
  • People Leadership and communication skills with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments in remote and resource-constrained environments under occasional high-pressure situations
  • Ability to work in challenging conditions, including rugged terrains and extreme weather

Salary Range: CAD $98,600 to $147,900/ year

The expected salary range for this role is intended to support transparency and informed decision making. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience and internal equity.
