About the role

Everything Nubank does runs on physical infrastructure that has to stay up. Power, cooling, connectivity and structured cabling are the layer nobody sees until it fails — and when it fails, 127 million customers can't move their money. In a regulated financial institution, that isn't just an outage: it's a reportable incident.

As a Senior Data Center Engineer, you own the technical design and safe execution of our critical environments as they expand. You assess and size sites, define the electrical, mechanical, civil and cabling specifications that meet real capacity needs, and coordinate the vendors and contractors who build them — on schedule, within our change management process, and compliant with quality, safety and regulatory standards.

This is a senior individual contributor role with real technical authority. You will not manage the team, but you will set the technical standard: you review projects, catch non-conformities before they become incidents, write the policies the team operates by, and grow the analysts around you through mentoring and technical guidance.

You own a clear goal: critical environments that are correctly sized, safely deployed, fully documented, and available when the business needs them.

You'll be responsible for

  • Assessing and sizing critical environments for expansion and improvement projects — defining the technical and physical specifications that meet capacity needs, optimize space utilization, and hold to operational standards, including on-site technical visits to ground your assessments in reality.
  • Specifying and coordinating electrical, mechanical, civil, structured cabling and systems deployments end to end, ensuring contracted work meets quality, safety and technical standards.
  • Writing structured RFPs and quote requests that give vendors unambiguous scope and technical requirements, then technically defining the materials and equipment required and tracking delivery against committed timelines.
  • Planning and approving deployment schedules in alignment with Nubank's change management process, and coordinating infrastructure occupancy so that changes land without compromising standards.
  • Running critical analyses of projects, requests and infrastructure usage — identifying non-conformities early to prevent incidents that would degrade service.
  • Creating and maintaining accurate project documentation (as-built drawings, calculation reports, capacity records) so the environment is auditable and future work starts from truth.
  • Setting the technical standard for the team: writing and maintaining internal policies and procedures, interpreting applicable norms and regulations, and mentoring analysts through complex demands.
  • Monitoring the team's operational indicators and OKRs, providing technical support to partner teams, interviewing candidates technically, and ensuring occupational safety requirements are met across all work on site.
  • We are looking for a person who has
  • Solid designing, deploying, operating and maintaining infrastructure in critical environments (data centers, telecom sites, or equivalent mission-critical facilities).
  • Deep hands-on experience across electrical systems (UPS, generators, distribution, redundancy topologies), mechanical/HVAC and cooling, and telecommunications infrastructure including structured cabling.
  • Experience owning vendor and contractor relationships technically — writing RFPs and technical specifications, evaluating proposals, and supervising execution on site through to acceptance.
  • Practical command of the standards and regulations that govern this work, such as NBR 5410, NBR 5419, NR-10, and TIA-942 or equivalent data center standards.
  • Experience mentoring and technically guiding less experienced engineers or analysts — this role builds the capability of the team around it, without direct people management.
  • AutoCAD at intermediate level or above, for reading, reviewing and producing project and as-built documentation.
  • Strong communication with both technical and non-technical audiences, and the judgment to escalate risk clearly.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent technical background.
  • Intermediate English proficiency — enough to work with international vendors, documentation and standards.
