We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join our Business Solutions Group in Halifax, NS. As the most modern shipyard in North America, Irving Shipbuilding is defined by its pace and appetite for change. This role requires someone who can quickly understand complex business challenges, establish trusted relationships with stakeholders, and lead the discovery and delivery of technology-enabled solutions that create measurable business value.
The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for discovering, synthesizing, and analyzing information from a variety of sources including systems, processes, documentation, data, and stakeholders. They lead complex business analysis initiatives, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend solutions that align business objectives with technology capabilities. In addition to delivering solutions, Senior Business Analysts coach and advise less-experienced Business Analysts and contribute to the evolution of business analysis practices, standards, and capabilities across JDI IT.
This position requires full-time on-site presence.

Business analysis is performed on a variety of strategic, tactical, and operational initiatives that support Irving Shipbuilding's ongoing transformation and continuous improvement efforts.
Key responsibilities include:
Develop and maintain relationships with business leaders, key stakeholders, external partners, and vendors
Understand customer demand versus IT supply and help prioritize opportunities that align with business objectives
Lead complex requirements elicitation, analysis, validation, and documentation activities
Investigate business problems and opportunities through process analysis and root cause analysis
Develop business cases and support investment decision-making
Facilitate workshops, meetings, and stakeholder discussions to build alignment and drive outcomes
Collaborate closely with solution design, architecture, and delivery teams to ensure business needs are effectively met
Understand system interdependencies and the broader technology landscape supporting Irving Shipbuilding operations
Document and optimize business processes, capabilities, and data flows
Build and maintain process models while supporting the definition of business goals, KPIs, and future-state operating models
Develop test strategies, test cases, and oversee business validation activities
Leverage data and analytics capabilities to support informed business decisions
Ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and security of business data
Manage and oversee complex initiatives from discovery through implementation
Provide solution recommendations and business-focused designs within their area of responsibility
Mentor and coach Business Analysts while contributing to internal business analysis standards, practices, and development programs
Balance current operational priorities with future business and technology needs to support long-term organizational goals
University degree or college diploma in a related discipline
5+ years of experience in a business environment, preferably within IT
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Advanced facilitation, workshop, and stakeholder engagement skills
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to influence decisions and provide meaningful recommendations at an executive level
Experience leading complex business and technology initiatives
Strong business process analysis and documentation capabilities
Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across teams
Highly organized with strong business acumen
Ability to challenge assumptions constructively and offer practical alternatives
Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring others
Bonus:
Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, marine, engineering, or shipbuilding operations
Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)
Experience with Agile delivery methodologies
Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO)
Experience with business process modeling and capability mapping
Experience developing business cases and supporting strategic planning initiatives
Change management experience
Experience working with enterprise analytics and reporting solutions
