We have a new opportunity for a Senior Investment Dealer to join our team in Edinburgh. In this role, you will ensure best execution for Fixed Income trades executed by Aegon Asset Management in the UK, adhering at all times to all regulatory requirements, with specific focus on Fixed Income and credit markets. You will regularly advise Investment Managers on the progress of their orders, proactively engaging with them, keeping them advised of market news and movements when required, and giving guidance on timing of trades.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Executing Fixed Income and High Yield credit trades in line with fund manager instructions, ensuring best execution across price, liquidity, speed and settlement considerations.
  • Sourcing and accessing liquidity across multiple counterparties and trading venues, with particular expertise in credit markets, including High Yield and less liquid instruments.
  • Exercising sound judgement in volatile or constrained market conditions, advising on optimal execution strategies, trade timing and order structuring.
  • Maintaining deep, up to date knowledge of High Yield bond markets, credit structures, covenant features, capital structures and secondary market dynamics.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on credit market conditions, flows and technicals, proactively sharing insights with Fixed Income investment teams.
  • Receiving, managing and accurately processing orders via the Order Management System, ensuring timely updates on execution status, amendments or cancellations.
  • Operating fully within MiFID, SMCR (Certified Person), best execution and market conduct requirements applicable to Fixed Income dealing activity.
  • Identifying, escalating and managing execution risks, liquidity risks or market conduct concerns, ensuring appropriate governance and documentation.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with Investment Managers, Risk, Compliance, Operations and external broker counterparties.
  • Support system enhancements, process reviews and regulatory change initiatives impacting Fixed Income execution.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Strong technical understanding of Fixed Income instruments, with particular depth in credit markets (including High Yield and less liquid credit), bond structures, liquidity characteristics and secondary market behaviour.
  • Proven ability to deliver best execution across a range of market conditions, including illiquid, volatile or stressed credit markets.
  • In depth knowledge of market mechanics, pricing, spreads and trading conventions relevant to credit markets.
  • High level of competence in the use of Order Management Systems (OMS) and associated trading, confirmation and reporting controls.
  • Significant experience in an Investment Dealing / Trading role within Fixed Income credit markets, with demonstrable exposure to High Yield execution.
  • Experience working closely with Investment Managers to advise on trade timing, execution approach and liquidity considerations, particularly for complex or size constrained orders.
  • Experience operating within a highly regulated environment, with a strong understanding of MiFID, market conduct, best execution and internal control requirements.
  • Strong judgement and decision-making capability, particularly under time pressure and market stress.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain market conditions, execution considerations and outcomes clearly to investment colleagues.
  • High attention to detail and control discipline, ensuring accuracy of execution, system updates and trade records.

What’s in it for you?

  • A competitive salary, depending on the experience you can bring
  • A non-contributory pension between 9%-13%
  • A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance
  • 27 days leave per year (plus bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time)
