Description of the company:

Our client is an 11-person Toronto interior design studio working almost exclusively on residential projects across the GTA, with the occasional commercial project (recent work includes Summerhill Market) and select projects outside the region. The principals are very hands-on and work closely with the senior designers. The studio has matured into a well-run operation with defined design processes and new software launching in the new year, while keeping a laid-back, team-first culture where people have built real friendships.

Why is this role open:

The studio's current Senior Designer is relocating to be closer to family. The principals are looking for a senior designer to take over a full portfolio of projects, become the main point of contact for those clients and consultants, and help lead the studio's Monday morning team meeting.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a portfolio of 8 to 12 residential projects, with the occasional commercial project, from concept through completion. Each is at a different phase and each has a dedicated support designer.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, trades, and suppliers on your projects.
• Direct and mentor your support designer or designers: review production work, set priorities, and help them grow.
• Own project schedules, presentations, sourcing, and design quality across every phase.
• Work directly with the principals on design direction and studio processes.
• Help lead the Monday morning team meeting.
• Attend site as needed to keep projects on track.

Must-haves:

• Substantial residential interior design experience, with a track record of managing multiple projects at once.
• Confident, clear communicator with clients and consultants.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior designers.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
• Education in interior design from an accredited program.
• Strong critical thinking, organization, and attention to detail.
• Able to work in the studio in Toronto full time.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada, and able to pass a criminal record check before an offer.

Nice-to-haves:

• ARIDO registration. Valued, not required, and reflected in compensation.
• SketchUp.
• Experience with custom builds and full-home renovations across the GTA.
• Experience running projects within a defined studio process, and interest in helping refine it as new software rolls out.

Work style:

Full-time, in the studio in Toronto, with half-day Fridays all year round and a 40-hour week that includes lunch. This is a project-management seat: you run your projects, own the relationships around them, and work directly with the principals. Site visits happen as projects require. Birthday celebrations and trade days are part of studio life.

Compensation Disclosure

Compensation for all roles Axis recruits for is multi-faceted and based on a range of factors including experience, skills, location, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may include performance-based bonuses, incentives, and a comprehensive benefits offering, in accordance with applicable Employment Standards Act (ESA) requirements.
