Job Description

  • Part-time (0.8 FTE, Monday to Thursday) | Contract until 20 June 2027
  • Based at headspace Pakenham, on the lands of the Bunurong People
  • SACS Level 5 | 12% Super + Salary Packaging benefits of up to $18,550 p.a.

Your role, your impact

As our Senior Intake & Brief Intervention Clinician, you'll be a steady and reassuring presence for young people taking their first step towards support. Combining clinical expertise, leadership and compassionate care, you'll create positive first experiences for young people and their families while helping ensure the centre operates safely and effectively.

As the designated on-site senior at headspace Pakenham, you'll provide day-to-day leadership and support to colleagues, visitors and community partners, while delivering evidence-based interventions that help young people access the right care at the right time.

You will:

  • Lead as the on-site senior, opening and closing the centre and supporting staff, visitors and co-located services
  • Provide welcoming intake and service access support to young people, families and community stakeholders
  • Deliver evidence-based brief interventions using single-session and short-term therapeutic approaches
  • Assess needs across mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drugs, and work and study domains
  • Support timely access to care by coordinating referrals and connecting young people with appropriate services
  • Build strong relationships with young people, families, schools, GPs and community partners
  • Contribute to clinical leadership activities as an active member of the local senior leadership team
  • Support students and emerging clinicians through mentoring, guidance and professional practice support
  • Maintain high-quality clinical records and reporting in line with service and compliance requirements
  • Participate in community engagement initiatives that improve awareness of, and access to, support

About you

You’re a compassionate and experienced clinician who is passionate about supporting young people and their families. You thrive in collaborative environments, build trusted relationships with ease, and bring strong clinical judgement to help young people access the right support at the right time.

You have:

  • Bachelor qualification/s in Youth Work, Occupational Therapy, Social Sciences, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline
  • Experience delivering mental health support to young people and young adults, including assessment, risk management and brief intervention
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage young people, families, carers and community stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding of adolescent development and youth mental health service systems
  • Current Driver’s Licence

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline
  • Experience working within a headspace service or youth mental health setting
  • Experience providing single-session therapy and brief treatment models
  • Previous experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring or student support
