Job Description

The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago invites applications for Senior Instructional Professor (open rank). This is a full-time, career-track position beginning September 2026, and is renewable with the opportunity for progression. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Senior Instructional Professor, Associate Senior Instructional Professor, or Senior Instructional Professor, with rank determined by qualifications. Depending on the rank, the appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable with the possibility for promotion.

The selected candidate will be responsible for leading and providing instructional oversight of the Quantum Engineering track of the Master of Engineering (MEng) program. Instructional responsibilities will include the delivery of up to six courses during the academic year, with the courses having the primary formats of lectures, laboratories, or engineering design projects. This instructional responsibility may include up to three quarters per academic year of the MENG 26200/36200 QuantumLab laboratory course, the undergraduate Engineering Design course, and the development and delivery of new courses, depending on programmatic needs for the MEng, undergraduate, and/or PhD programs. The candidate will also be expected to keep regular office hours, contribute to non-classroom instructional or service duties, and ongoing professional development.

The candidate will manage the Quantum Educational Lab (“QuantumLab”), a pioneering space delivering hands-on instruction in quantum systems and engineering. The candidate will be responsible for managing the capital and operating budgets of the facility, the portfolio of experiments and laboratory equipment, and the access to and utilization of the physical laboratory space. They will also be responsible for staffing and management of the technical staff that design, build, and maintain experiments for the facility.

More broadly, the selected candidate will be expected to work with the PME faculty, leadership, and staff to support its graduate and undergraduate programs. Additional responsibilities beyond the classroom will include, but not be limited to: advising students on the Quantum Engineering track of the Master of Engineering program; advising College students majoring and minoring in Molecular Engineering; engaging in recruitment activities for the PME academic programs; developing, participating in, and contributing to program operations, admissions, student recruitment, alumni engagement; and/or delivering summer programming for the PME.

Qualifications

A PhD in Physics, Engineering, or related field is required by the start of appointment.
