The Senior Instructional Design Specialist (SIDS) performs a full range of professional duties assisting faculty and staff with designing and implementing online courses (asynchronous and synchronous; standalone and academic) as well as computer training support. Works with colleagues to develop new education curriculum (courses, content and materials) and translate existing content to new delivery formats. Conducts an assessment of needs, designs curriculum for instruction, and implements and follows up with an evaluation of courses and curriculum created. Provides ongoing instructional design and technical expertise for faculty and staff in the development of web-based projects and online learning opportunities. This includes conceptualizing design options, programs, and deploying them and assisting in assessing education technology products for efficacy on an ongoing basis. Has responsibility for project management and tracking and may serve as a lead or mentor to other staff.

Works with colleagues and subject-matter experts to analyze needs and determine goals, objectives, and appropriate delivery methods and media for instructional products.
Deliver classroom, virtual, and hands-on training for pre-analytic workflows.
Understands and clearly articulates the principles of adult learning and the cognitive processes involved in effective teaching and learning.
Ensures adequate discussion among project members; keeps all stakeholders (colleagues and customers/project proponents) informed of project progress and changes to keep production moving forward.
Works on multiple projects simultaneously, managing a heavy workload while meeting expectations; uses good judgment in providing services.
Establishes written plans and project schedules to guide development of project design and implementation of project deliverable with amount of detail appropriate for the size of the project.
Possesses advanced knowledge of training authoring tools and graphics applications such as Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) and video authoring tools like Camtasia or Adobe Captivate.
Demonstrates leadership by influencing the actions and opinions of others in a desired direction and by exhibiting judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives.
Draws on experience to guide discussion and decisions on how to leverage technology to accomplish MCL Specimen Services educational strategies.
Applies understanding of the interdependence of systems and the interaction between systems, people, and processes to influence change.
Influences others through the practice of seeking and using feedback from others about how to be more effective, being assertive, using compelling reasoning to win support from others, negotiating effectively, mobilizing others into action and earning the respect and trust of others at many levels in the organization.
This position will support the curriculum and training development needs for Mayo Laboratory Inquiry (MLI), a part of Mayo Clinic Laboratories.
This position requires a two year commitment

A bachelor's degree plus 3 to 5 years of related experience is required.
Additional Skills and Qualifications:
A master's degree in education, instructional design or related field is preferred. Demonstrated success in curriculum design and development. Knowledge and experience in developing relational and web-based databases. Proficiency in standard productivity software, web-based authoring systems, graphics software and multimedia applications. Must be able to work effectively in a team-based environment in both lead and subordinate roles. Previous experience as a student in online college-level courses using Blackboard, WebCT or similar application is beneficial. Previous supervisory responsibility is also beneficial. CPLP and/or PMP certification preferred.
