At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. We build and connect technologies to help protect people, property and places. Our solutions foster the collaboration that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals, safer businesses, and ultimately, safer nations. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.

Department Overview

The Global Education Department enables Motorola Solutions’ technologies to be deployed, used, and supported with confidence. We create scalable training and learning experiences for customers, partners, and employees worldwide. Through clear, effective education on our products and solutions, we directly support safer communities and more resilient organizations.

The Senior Instructional Designer is a key member of the Online Training Team and responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality online technical product training. This role sits at the intersection of product technology, instructional design, and modern digital media.

The ideal candidate is an experienced learning professional who can translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging, and interactive learning experiences. Success in this role requires strong technical aptitude, creative problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and comfort using emerging technologies—including generative AI—to streamline development and support rapid product evolution across Motorola Solutions’ portfolios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze performance needs and design effective learning solutions by conducting needs analysis, defining learning objectives, creating instructional strategies, developing assessments, and collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure training drives measurable performance outcomes.

  • Design interactive, visually compelling online training that explains technical concepts, product features, and role-based workflows.

  • Develop multimedia assets—including demo videos, animations, simulations, and graphics—using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, and Camtasia.

  • Translate complex hardware and software behaviors into intuitive, task-based learning materials.

  • Build strong foundational knowledge of Motorola Solutions’ products, workflows, and solution ecosystem to ensure accuracy and relevance.

  • Track product updates and release cycles to update training aligned with product roadmaps.

  • Partner with SMEs, product managers, engineers, and technical teams to gather information, validate content, and ensure training alignment.

  • Manage training assets within a product portfolio, including planning, prioritization, and on-time delivery of updates.

  • Lead or coordinate projects across global teams and time zones using strong communication, organization, and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Ensure all training aligns with Motorola Solutions’ brand, accessibility standards, and quality expectations.

  • Use AI-enabled tools to accelerate scripting, prototyping, media creation, and content optimization.

  • Analyze training performance using learner data, analytics, and feedback to continuously refine learning materials.

  • Apply instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles to produce modular, performance-focused training experiences.

Basic Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communications, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Instructional Design or Learning Experience Design, including the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of online learning solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing eLearning using Articulate Storyline.

  • Experience designing and developing training for software, hardware, SaaS, enterprise technology, or other technical product environments.

Additional Clarification

This role is focused on instructional design and learning experience design. Successful candidates will have direct experience analyzing performance needs, designing learning solutions, developing instructional content, creating assessments, and collaborating with subject matter experts. Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to multimedia production, graphic design, video production, LMS administration, or content development without responsibility for instructional design may not be a fit for this position.

Your Competitive Advantages

  • A strong portfolio showcasing online technical training, videos, and interactive learning solutions.

  • Experience developing learning for software, hardware, or integrated multi-product environments.

  • Strong visual design skills and familiarity with modern digital learning aesthetics.

  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools to support scripting, structuring, prototyping, or content development workflows.

  • Familiarity with advanced video editing techniques and best practices for technical demonstrations.

  • Knowledge of product-based training, scenario-based learning, performance support, or workflow-centered learning approaches.

  • Proven ability to simplify and communicate complex technical concepts with clarity and precision.

  • Advanced English verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global stakeholders, conduct SME interviews, and develop training content in English.

  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, performance-based design, scenario-based learning, and modular content architecture.

  • Ability to translate complex technical subject matter into intuitive, engaging learning experiences.

  • Demonstrated interest in generative AI and experience using AI tools in content development, scripting, media workflows, or content optimization.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
