Job Description

Develop, evaluate and revise the techniques and procedures that formulate the established environmental control and aseptic standards of the hospital. Planning, coordinating, monitoring and controlling through consultation with appropriate department heads, training programs to assure that sanitary standards are controlled and regulated throughout the hospital and affiliated primary care sites.

Responsibilities

- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of BronxCare Health System and its employees.

- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BronxCare Health System (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

- Assess and evaluates patients determining the presence or absence of nosocomial infections.Collection of all demographic data pursuant to NNIS program.

- Reporting of communicable diseases to the NYC Department of Health as well as maintaining data on treated vs. non-treatment.

- Conduct in-service training as well as new employee orientation.

- Monitoring and evaluating sterilization.

- Review and tract trends in microbiological data, maintain records percentage of MRSA isolates on monthly basis.

- Inspects all hospital departments and primary care sides.

Participates in hospital wide environmental rounds.

- Conducts weekly isolation room surveillance.Monitoring proper utilization of isolation rooms.

- Represents Department of Infection Control at Safety and Product Evaluation meetings.

Qualifications

- Demonstrate competence in the principles of Epidemiology.

- Demonstrate competence in Statistical Analysis and interpretation of data.

- Competence in preparing and presenting formal lectures related to infectious control.

- Excellent communication and problem solving skills, and the ability to work with various levels of personnel.

- Commitment to continuing professional development.

- Knowledge of the New York State Health Code and JCAHO and OSHA requirements.

- Training in Epidemiology or Sanitation at the Center for Disease Control or a comparable program

- Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Epidemiology or other Biological Sciences
