Our values:
Cart.com is building a company that is committed to living out these 6 core values:
Be brand obsessed: Our lives are shaped by the brands we interact with daily. We obsess over the brands we serve, and about the things they care about.
Think beyond the box: “We’ve always done it that way” is not a phrase uttered often at our office. We create creative solutions to complex problems.
Don’t give up: We learn from our challenges and see them for what they are; great building blocks to an amazing brand story.
Speak up: We communicate clearly and directly because we care deeply. Communication is the bedrock of our community.
Work together: We’ve built a team that prides itself on diversity of thought and background. Collaboration is better with contrast.
Remember to be human: We work hard, but we leave room for the people, places and things that we love.

The Role:
The Senior Industrial Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading complex industrial engineering initiatives across sites and functions. This role owns projects end-to-end, translating engineering analysis into operational improvements and measurable business results while mentoring junior engineers.
The Senior Industrial Engineer independently leads labor modeling, capacity planning, layout and process redesign, and capital justification initiatives. This role develops and validates analytical models, partners with operations leadership on execution, supports site launches and expansions, and establishes engineering standards. The Senior Industrial Engineer serves as a technical mentor and plays a key role in cross-functional initiatives impacting multiple facilities.
You’ll lead building launches and shutdowns, spearhead network-wide layout redesigns, deliver data-driven process optimization, and partner cross-functionally with operations, finance, software engineering, and client services. This role was created to expand the scope of an exceptional engineer—it demands someone who can zoom out to see the network, zoom in to solve the problem, and bring others along for both.
What You’ll Do:
Engineering Leadership & Team Development
Mentor, and coach junior engineers and engineering interns, setting standards for analysis quality, project execution, and documentation
Drive a culture of continuous improvement, intellectual curiosity, and engineering rigor within the team
Building Launches, Shutdowns & Network Projects
Assist multi-site or network-level industrial engineering projects, coordinating across stakeholders to meet scope, schedule, and budget targets
Develop and maintain project timelines, risk logs, and milestone deliverables for complex, long-horizon initiatives
Facility Layout & Space Design
Redesign and optimize building layouts, including storage configurations, process flow paths, workstation design, and dock utilization
Conduct space planning analyses to maximize throughput, minimize travel distance, and support peak volume requirements
Collaborate with facilities, WMS/WCS teams, and automation vendors to translate layout designs into operational realities
Develop slotting strategies and SKU profiling analyses to improve warehouse efficiency and reduce handling costs
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
Lead moderate/complex Lean/Six Sigma initiatives across the fulfillment network, identifying and eliminating waste in receiving, pick, pack, sort, and ship operations
Conduct detailed time studies and work measurement to establish and validate labor standards
Redesign process flows, SOP structures, and workstation configurations to improve throughput and reduce variability
Evaluate and improve operational cost drivers including UPH, CPU, labor utilization, and partner profitability metrics
Data Analysis & Reporting
Build and maintain analytical models to support operational forecasting, staffing planning, capital expenditure (Capex) justifications, and improvement analyses
Develop SQL queries, Python scripts, and reporting dashboards to surface actionable insights from WMS, WCS, and ERP data sources
Analyze data from prospective fulfillment partners to generate costing models used in structuring new partner agreements
Perform post-launch studies to compare model accuracy against actual performance and close the feedback loop on predictive tools
Build meaningful summaries and data reporting on partner profitability, network performance, and engineering project ROI
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Support operational and financial forecasting cycles, contributing engineering-driven input on productivity, capacity, and cost
Determine optimal WMS configuration and floor process setup for new fulfillment partners
Perform other related duties as required and assigned
Who You Are:
A systems thinker who can manage network-level complexity while staying precise at the detail level
An effective people leader who invests in others’ growth and holds your team to high engineering standards
Comfortable owning a project from whiteboard to go-live—and everything in between
A strong communicator who can translate technical analysis into clear business recommendations for non-engineering audiences
Energized by ambiguity and fast-moving environments—you build structure where there isn’t any
Proficient with data tooling and willing to get hands-on when the problem calls for it
Collaborative by default, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and advocate for sound engineering decisions
What You’ve Done:
· 5+ years of experience in 3PL, distribution, fulfillment and/or supply chain engineering
Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
Applied Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement methodologies in an operational environment (certification preferred)
Built and deployed analytical models for labor planning, Capex justification, partner profitability, or capacity forecasting
Proficient in SQL; experience writing, debugging, and optimizing queries against production or operational databases
Working knowledge of WMS and WCS platforms; experience configuring or optimizing system setups in a fulfillment context
Exposure to warehouse automation technologies (conveyors, sorters, robotics, goods-to-person systems)
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite—particularly Excel (advanced), PowerPoint, and Access
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with finance, operations, sales, and client-facing teams
Strong communication, documentation, and project management skills with high attention to detail
Nice to Haves:
Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean Master certification
Experience with goods-to-person automation platforms (Locus, 6 River, AutoStore, Symbotic, etc.)
Experience in a 3PL or multi-client fulfillment environment
Exposure to greenfield facility design from a real estate or construction coordination perspective
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related field
MBA or advanced degree complementing engineering background
Experience with BI tooling such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker for operational reporting
