About the role

Based in North Sydney, we are looking for an experienced Senior Industrial Designer to join our Operations team and play a key role in the development of products across the oOh!media asset portfolio.

This is a hands-on role responsible for taking products from initial concept and industrial design through to prototype development, testing, engineering certification and manufacturing specifications.

Working closely with our Operations and Commercial teams, you will identify and deliver product development and procurement opportunities while ensuring projects are delivered to high standards, on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement product roadmaps aligned with business strategy, budgets, timelines and available resources.
  • Lead the development of new and existing products, including design, evaluation, prototyping, testing and manufacture.
  • Develop detailed design documentation, technical specifications, drawings, materials specifications and engineering requirements.
  • Manage project plans and ensure key milestones, budgets and product specifications are achieved.
  • Design innovative and commercially viable street furniture and outdoor products that enhance the oOh!media product portfolio.
  • Manage custom design, manufacturing and engineering requirements for special projects.
  • Work closely with local and international suppliers on product development, manufacturing processes and quality control.
  • Conduct supplier and manufacturing site visits where required to ensure products and processes meet Australian Standards and required safety standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for tenders and new business opportunities.
  • Work with Business Development teams to provide technical solutions that support new revenue opportunities.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies, materials, manufacturing techniques and industry innovations.
  • Review and improve existing industrial design, product development and manufacturing processes to drive greater efficiency.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, manufacturers and other external partners.
  • Maintain high service and quality standards across all projects.
  • Promote and comply with oOh!media's WHS policies, procedures and safety culture, ensuring appropriate controls are in place to manage workplace risks.
  • Ensure suppliers and subcontractors comply with required safe work practices.

About You

You will be an experienced Industrial Designer or Product Development professional with a strong understanding of taking products from concept through to commercial manufacture.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience in industrial design and product development.
  • Experience developing products within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of stage-gate product development processes, including concept development, costing, market requirements, prototyping, testing and manufacture.
  • Experience designing and developing products using steel, aluminium/alloys and other manufacturing materials.
  • Strong knowledge of prototype development and product testing methodologies.
  • High-level computer skills, including 3D CAD and SolidWorks.
  • Architectural, engineering or technical drafting experience.
  • Strong project planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Strong stakeholder and supplier relationship management capability.
  • The ability to develop clear technical documentation, procedures and work instructions.
  • Experience working within a technically focused and commercially competitive environment.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a broader team.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in Industrial Design, Engineering, Landscape Architecture or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
