We are the Customer Experience and Design Team, grounded in the CTO office and integrated throughout Motorola Solutions' businesses and strategies. We are user-focused and outcome-driven, identifying problems and creating solutions based on research and close collaboration with our customers.

About Us
The Experience Design and Research (EDR) team is a cross-functional group focused on Human Centered Design and Research that fuels the next generation of experiences and solutions for our mission-critical customers and users. The team consists of Industrial Designers, UI/UX, Service Designers, and Researchers who design for diverse and challenging Professional-grade markets. Police, Fire, and Commercial user groups all have very distinct and tangible design problems; whether it’s the dirt, grime, and high noise of industrial environments, gloves and turnout gear for fire, or managing intense cognitive loads during police action. Our team is exploring, testing, and designing for emerging technologies and integrations that will define the next generation of commercial and public solutions. Your designs will help us solve for safer workplaces and communities.

An Industrial Designer is an established and productive professional who works independently and with general supervision. You are compelled to innovate and want your work to have benefit and impact in the most extreme situations. You seek complex challenges, transforming them into meaningful designs and critical experiences. This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills and the capability to collaborate in a global team-focused environment. You can influence others, establishing and defending user-driven and principle-based designs across multiple parallel projects.


Basic Requirements

Must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited industrial design program.

A Masters degree is a plus.

Must speak, read and write in English.

Work Description and Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Industrial Design (Hardware)

  • Create world-class hardware designs in a fast-paced environment.

  • Integrate effectively into a multidisciplinary group that includes cognitive and behavioral scientists, interaction designers, and human factors engineers and deliver to strict deadlines.

  • Uncover problems and develop them into ideas that become design solutions grounded by end-user requirements, providing a solid value proposition.

  • Collaborate with marketing and engineering to ensure the successful implementation of industrial designs.

  • Analyze problems to uncover the "real" issues about users, context, and environment.

  • Judge concept effectiveness by linking to use cases, user requirements, and research data.

  • Quickly identify and create appropriate design concepts and maintain design intent through production.

  • Leverage AI as a creative co-partner in brainstorming and concept generation to rapidly explore design variations and accelerate the ideation process.

  • Utilize AI tools for visual storytelling to communicate a user journey or product value proposition through various media, including animations and videos.

Tech Skills

  • Strong 2-D visualization skills are necessary, such as sketching, Illustrator, and Photoshop software.

  • A solid expertise in at least one 3-D CAD program, such as Solid Works, Pro E, Rhino, or other similar tools is required.

  • Proficiency in video and animation (Adobe After Effects or similar) for storytelling of user experience or product attributes.

  • Experience with or willingness to adopt AI-powered design and visualization tools to enhance design output and efficiency.

  • A portfolio with past work experience and products designed is required at application.
