Job Description

The Senior DBA is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of IBM DB2 databases across enterprise environments. This role ensures data integrity, availability, and security while supporting mission-critical applications and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and upgrade database systems.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, including SQL tuning and resource allocation.
  • Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies using DB2 tools.
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Manage user access, roles, and security policies.
  • Perform capacity planning and scalability assessments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues and performance bottlenecks.
  • Document database architecture, procedures, and standards.
  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to support application performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Matric and a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in DB2 database administration.
  • Strong knowledge of DB2 architecture, utilities, and performance tools.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting (Shell, Perl, or Python).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like DB2 Admin Tool, or IBM Data Studio.
  • Certifications such as IBM Certified Database Administrator are a plus.
