Job Description

Hoyle Tanner has a new position open for an initiative-taking Sr. Hydraulic Engineer with experience in open channel flow (rivers/streams). You will lead and support hydraulic analysis and scour evaluation for bridge and culvert projects. Location: Burlington, VT

Situated in the heart of Burlington’s downtown district, our office sits high on the fourth floor of the Wells-Richardson historic building overlooking the beautiful Lake Champlain waterfront and Adirondack Mountains.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and conduct hydraulic studies for bridge and culvert projects, including river, stream, and floodplain crossings
  • Perform detailed scour analyses for new and existing bridge structures and recommend appropriate scour protection measures
  • Utilize hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SRH-2D) and GIS-based project mapping tools for project analysis and design
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, maps, and documentation for regulatory submittals and project records
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, including structural engineers, environmental scientists, and construction staff
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and review their work for accuracy and compliance

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related field
  • PE Licensure
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Exceptional oral/ written communication skills
  • Salary is contingent on experience
